Great Product

This was one of the first installs I did to my 14TEP. Great product & great service. 5 months after I bought mine, my truck was broken into, but they didn't get into the Console Vault.

If you're an opportunistic criminal and don't bring a grinder or tools that can pry apart steel items... you're not getting into the Console Vault. I'm not saying that a criminal can't get into it... but they would (a) have to really want to, (b) be prepared with tools to do so, and (c) probably already know what they're trying to steal... because most people don't leave high $$ items there 24/7.

Anyway, I contacted Console Vault, sent them pics and my original purchase invoice... and they shipped me a replacement - free - by EOD. Wow!

One of the owners mentioned that "he'd love to get his hands on the damaged one and take a closer look," so I boxed up the damaged one and sent it back to them on my dime. I figured that was the least I could do since they replaced mine.

It is very good to hear that the Console Vault was not compromised, i have been looking at them, and was a little concerned with the lock mechanism, but i guess they don't make one for my 02 anyway. Thanks for sharing.

Just received my console vault for my '15 TEP yesterday and can also confirm it is a great product. Took just a couple minutes to install and to remove the tag. Fits like a glove.

Combo or Barrel key?

I'm seriously itching to get one of these. How do the combo locks versus the key lock compare?

From pictures it looks as if the barrel key would be more sturdy and harder to damage/get at. Can anyone comfirm pro's cons that they have experienced with either?

The downside of a combo is anyone can get into it with enough time, especially a 3 digit combo. The downside of the key, is you likely will keep the Console Vault key on your main keys which means you might have trouble getting in under certain circumstances. You need to decide based on what you're going to be putting in there and when it will be locked in there.

Thanks for the response. That is basically what I was thinking. I suppose the 4-digit combo would be the most convenient and useful in case you needed to quickly access the vault and your key was on your main keys as you said, which is of course the most likely place for the key. I guess 4 digit combo it is.

My thoughts are if you're using it for a firearm, I would never leave my pistol locked in there over night unless I absolutely had to. Typically I would use this to lock up a firearm if I'm running into a courthouse/post office/etc. The minute I got back into my vehicle I would reholster so that it is available if needed. In that case it doesn't really matter which one you go with. I'd still lean towards a key though.

IMO 3 digit is worthless no matter what you put in there

Once the vault is installed is it possible to run a phone charging cable through the vault at any point? I would like to get one of these, but my phone charger cable comes out of the console now and if I install this vault I do not see a way to thread the cable through. Any thoughts?

I know there are other spots to charge a phone, but I cannot see inside the vault to know how enclosed it is from the inside.

Yeah, I am starting to lean towards the barrel key locking mechanism. It looks more sturdy, is $35 cheaper than teh 4 digit and I agree with what others have said which is that my gun would only be stored and locked in there when I had to leave it in the vehicle for short trips, other than that it would be holstered on my person any other time.

The vault has a cutout that allows access to the 12V port in the console. However, there's not a way to bring a charge cord out through the top due to the way the lid fits onto the console vault-basically a design to prevent someone from prying the lid off.

Anyone else have issues with the 4 digit combo lock?

I got it from the group buy here and the numbers on the left side of the lock wont spin after setting the combo. I called Console Vault, so we will see what they say, but I was wondering if there are any other people with issues.

Seems like a lot of money for what it is, though. And not as secure as a vault. But at least you'll still have access to the rest of that space.

You guys are making this harder than it seems.

1. The problem with a key is it can get lost.
2. The 4 digit lock is nice because you just leave it on the pass code for easy open/close access.
3. If you have a firearm and you're in the car the firearm shouldn't be in the vault anyway if you want fast access. Attach it to the underside of the steering wheel, side of door, front of seat etc…. There's plenty of attachments for this.
4. Like [MENTION=120116]mtomaro[/MENTION] said, lock your gun when you go in to an anti-gun establishment.
5. If you want to access the port unfortunately the only way to do this is to drill a hole through the center console plastic right below the arm rest where the cut out is on the CV. Not ideal but it's actually in a place you really cant see it.

The CV is really easy to get in and out of if you have the combo. Raise the arm rest, twist the lock, the lid pops open and you grab your shit.

Pretty awesome addition. Since the change holder is basically covered has anyone thought about drilling it out enough to drop the skinny end of a flashlight in there leaving the top of the light sticking up enough to easily access? Just throwing an idea out there and someone can try it or come up with something close.

I know this particular post is older, but for those interested, there is a little space between the top of the box where the logo is, and the bottom of the arm rest. You can place a velcro patch on it, and use maxpedition mag holders to secure a knife or surefire-sized handheld light.

Has anyone made a fixed solution to holding a handgun? Perhaps industrial velcro and fixing it to the side? I throw a small handgun in there, holstered, but don't really like it clanging around with other items in the box.

barrel key or the keyless locks?

Gents,
I'm up in the air on the barrel key or the keyless locks on this product... Hopeful you might have some experience to share on the security aspect of the actual locking mechanics.

Some of these multiple rotating disc locks tend to be the least secure padlock type... As in there is a possibility they could be easily opened by pulling on the lock as you spin each number into place through friction. Has anybody tried this on these keyless vault locks? I get the benefits of not having the key. I'm only questioning the function of the keyless lock here.

Can someone tell me if the barrel key can be removed when the CV is unlocked? One could then unlock the CV while you are in it to access the contents and then lock it when you leave.
