So, I've always wanted a 3rd Gen 4Runner with manual transmission. Unfortunately, my wife can't drive manual and I prefer driving manual. We ended up getting a new 2009 Rav4. I really really like the higher seating position I get from the Rav4 and still really want to pursue my dream of getting a manual 4Runner (more so now that I've experienced driving a higher vehicle).
The question is, since I can only afford a 2nd gen now instead of the 3rd gen, I was wondering what you guys would suggest. I know alot about the 3rd gens as I was dead set on getting one, but I know next to nothing about the 2nd gens.
Should I get a 4-cylinder or V6? Do they use timing belts or chains? What are some things I should look for when looking for a used 2nd gen? Lastly, I heard that the 4WD can't be used on regular roads. Does that mean I can't/shouldn't put it into 4WD until I feel the wheels slipping? The reason I like the 4WD is to have it on full time when I'm driving in snow or slippery conditions.
Thanks
