New member
New here but long time lurker. I have a 03 SR5 V8 that used to be the wifes. Traded my 05 G35 for 08 Pathfinder last year. I have always liked the 4runner since the first time I saw it. It was the first 4th Gen I had ever seen and I bought it. Opportunity knocked. Wife asked why I always get the new cars so I handed her the keys to the pathfinder and took her keys for the runner. Pathfinder has now been replaced by a 05 crossfire roadster but to get back on topic the 4runner has survived and needs tires.

99% of my driving is on pavement but thinking of doing some mods to the runner and some offroading. I'm thinking the Conti's may be a little stiffer and have better on road manners. Reviews from TR show both tires having good wet, dry traction but the Revos have it in the mud zone. Just curious what the thoughts on this forum will be. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you are plannig on taking the truck off road, the you have more planning to do. You need to consider off road durability, daily driving, tire size, load rating. Hint: the Conti's are out.


Take some time to look around the off road and tire sections there is a lot of good info. I'd recommend you first decide on what size tire you want to run. Once that is decided, you can see other's with that size setup, what mods were necessary and read the feedback.


Its not as easy as picking one tire over another, Good luck.
 
Kind of an apples and oranges comparison IMO and your decision depends largely on where that 1% will actually take place. That 1% becomes 0% if the tires aren't up to the challenge.

I have the Contis and like them a lot. However, my 1% to date has been limited to fire/farm/access type roads and beach sand along with the occasional curb jump, for which the Contis are fine...haven't tried any deep mud/snow/rock crawling. The Revo's were never on my list due to price and likely being noiser due to the AT bias. I did think long and hard about the Geolander, however.

I was in your shoes a few days ago. I was set on getting the Revos because they are suppose to be good on the road and pretty good offroad. Unfortunately my local shop where I get my tires don’t carry Bridgestone/Firestone. The guy recommended Cooper Discoverer ATR. I looked online and didn’t think they looked like an AT tire, but from the reviews that I could find they seem to do well on the road and last longer than the Revos. Since the T4R is my wife’s vehicle and she specifically asked for tires that “don’t make noise”, I ordered the Coopers and they were put on yesterday (I asked for black walls out). When my wife went to pick up the vehicle she called me and said they look like mud tires?!?! :lmao: They don’t look like mud tires, but they do have a mildly aggressive, pretty deep tread pattern with plenty of siping. I think it should be about perfect for what we will be using it for. Plus there is a $75 rebate till 10/31 which helps.
