Contura II Rocker Switches?

So I was looking through another thread on here and I saw a guy with a 4th gen T4R that was using these rocker switches: OTRATTW. They look awesome and I want to get some for my 3rd gen T4R, but I don't know if they will fit in the factory "cutouts"...The guy with the 4th gen said he had to trim the factory "cutouts" to get them to fit but I don't know how they compare between generations.

Are the "cutouts" the same size in 3rd gens and 4th gens, or are they different? I don't mind doing some trimming to get them to fit, but I just want to make sure that I can get them fit before pull the trigger. Thanks!

I dont know about the contura 2's.

But, I know for a fact that the contura 1 switches fit. I have some I am getting ready to install with some lights.

I know the contura 2 switches look awesome, but I personally prefer the look of the contura 1 switch.

Huh, those look exactly like the Contura II, maybe they are just an updated version of the Contura I?...

I wanted to get a switch that says "Roof Lights" but they were out of stock so I ended up getting a "Zombie Lights" one instead :bravo:

Can someone clarify the wiring of these switches for me? I got the stock toyota fog light switch for my ABS disable, but it is clearly made for use with a relay only.

I see that these contura V's are labelled as SPST, and DPDT, etc which is great, but are these contura rockers normally closed or normally open? The description just says "on" and "off". I assume they are normally open, AKA off, and "on" is actually closed, but I don't see it specified somewhere.

I actually just wired mine up and got them installed this weekend, so hopefully I can help. The switches that I purchased, SPST ON/OFF switches, are open when they are in the "OFF" position, meaning that the circuit is interrupted and no power is getting to whatever the switch is hooked up to. When the switch is turned to the "ON" position, the circuit is completed and allows power to flow to whatever the switch is hooked up to.

I have the Andy Mod 2.0 and I ran into a problem when trying to wire up this switch. Since the SPST switch is normally in the "OFF" (open) position, the switch that I have hooked up to my Andy Mod must be in the "ON" (closed) position to keep the TRAC/VCS enabled. The solution to this problem is to simply get a DPST switch. The DPST switch is the exact opposite of the SPST switches, where in the "OFF" position the circuit is closed and allows power to flow to whatever the switch is hooked up to, and when it is in the "ON" position the circuit is open and does not allow power to flow through. Another thing to keep in mind with the Andy Mod switch is that the top light will NOT light up, because the switch is not hooked up to any sort of power source.

Here is the wiring diagram that is provided for the switches:

How I wired my fog lights up:
2) Power from battery with inline fuse
3) Wire to fog light control relay
6) Power wire from factory light control switch (so whenever I switch on my parking lights or headlights, the bottom switch light will light up)
7) Ground wire (grounded to the metal body)
8) Ground wire (same as above)

Hopefully this helps and I didn't completely confuse you. When I get home from work I will post some pictures of my setup.

Thanks for the info. I am not doing the Andy mod, but I'm doing the ABS disable using the rear locker control unit, so I am looking for a switch that is normally open, then flipping it closes the switch, and lights up the light. Sounds like the SPST is exactly what I want.

So for everyone/anyone looking into these switches, I would highly recommend them! They look great and fit perfectly into the factory cut outs for 3rd gen T4Rs.

Well in a year and a half I will be able to leave the fire dept.'s explorer program and join the regular dept., at which point I will be able to get a permit for blue lights! That requires a switch =D

But until then, maybe a pair of Rigid Duallys? Right now I don't even have enough for gas money, I'll work on it, though.

Thanks for starting this thread! I was about to start trimming but I'd prefer to avoid cutting where necessary as the platic on my 4runner is in pretty good shape.

I am curious why on earth there are so many pre set holes though. In my car I count two unused holes near my parking brake (I have the rear window and the tcs), four holes to the left of my steering wheel and two unused plugs behind the second set of holes. What accessories are supposed to be in here? Am I just rocking a super base model 97 or did they plan on us adding a bunch of accessories?

Haha, I ordered that switch but the website is wrong and I actually received the one that says "zombie response lights". I called about this several weeks ago and was told it would be taken care of but ive yet to receive the correct rocker. I believe the hold up may be the switch since I see they are out of stock on the red/red spat switches.

True, but I like to leave it be where I can. I just hacked out my dash in order to slip a cb radio where my ash tray used to be. Forgot to but the 90 coax adapeter first though...driving around with a partially assembled dash isn't so bad, right? :frusty:
