What's with that mirror mounted to the front driver fenders that a lot of them have?

a lotta japanese cars have them, they drive on the right hand side so its gives them that extra view i guess. i know driving in japan can be very very tight, lotta small roads and crevices, so a 4runner would be considered big there.

I'll second that explanation after spending '99-02 in Japan, you're correct. The Japanese do place the mirrors on the front portion of the car for a better view of what's behind them. They also have those nice motorized side mirrors that fold in and out at the push of a button. I loved that feature when I had my '91 Toyota Carib.

The Surfs were very popular where I lived in the north. There were some great trails and mountains in that region that the Japanese with capable vehicles loved to traverse...I miss Japan.
