I flushed my radiator about 5k miles ago, and the level of the coolant was filled between the F and L lines on the overflow tank, and has held constant.
I was recently on a long road trip, and during a cursory fluids check, I saw that the level in the overflow tank had dropped by a couple of inches. First thing I looked at was the radiator cap, which in my experience, can and do go bad. Sure enough, there was some minor seepage of coolant from the cap. I purchased a new cap, and filled the overflow tank back to half between the F and L. The level stayed constant for the rest of the trip.
I am unclear if this was the correct procedure to replenish the lost coolant. Can the coolant from the overflow make its way back into the radiator, or should I have added the new fluid to the radiator and allowed it to naturally make its way back into the system?
