coolant leak?

Hi

I have a 2000 SR5 Runner with about 67K miles. The last few snowfalls I have noticed that there is a couple of yellow/green drops in the snow located around the rear axle. Looks like coolant. Why near the rear axle and should I be concerned?

Check if the back side of your rear wheel drums show signs of fluid leaks. It could be the rear axle seals leaking, maybe caused by a clogged diff breather? Just a guess. Without pics, it's hard to tell.

The color being the same as coolant yellow/green, does that make any sense? What should the color be of the fluid in the rear axle?

Brown/yellow not green though.

Any chance maybe it is a dog pissing on your tires, does it happen anywhere else like at work or just at home you never said where this is happing at.

I say this because my dad's dog would piss on his tires then another dog would come and piss on it to mark it.

Just a thought.

Actually that is a funny thought. My wife drives it and I have a large driveway. Anywhere she parks and leaves the next day there is a 1" in diameter spot melted through the snow and on the border where the snow starts its yellow/green. Since I dont drive it to work I have only seen it in my driveway

Is the spot next to the tire? Out side not under your truck.
If so look for signs on the rim/tire.any dog prints or do you own a dog that good do it.

Again just a thought.

That's hilarious! I guess you could always smell it. It it was gear oil leaking though the axle seals, it would have a strong odor. If it's the neighbor's dog...well, a different odor.
