Coolant problem????? help??

Hey every one i installed new rad on my runner last week, i noticed tonight that the hoses are hard and feel like there pressurized, the upper coolant hose is hot and the lower was ice cold after a 20 min drive, i bleed the coolant and radiator, what could this be??? if thermo state was bad wouldent it over heat or not put out heat?? whats causing it to pressureise, it operates at normal temp and puts off good heat, could the thermo be stuck shut????

sounds normal to me. The upper hoses are from your engine, so it will be hot. The lower is from the radiator, and it should be cold. And the while system is pressurized.

shouldnt be too cold, sounds like you might have an air bubble, open the cap, then run the car for till it gets to normal operation temp, and make sure you keep it full of coolant... once it is hot all the way around put the cap on and you should be good to go

Just today, I looked to my right at a stop sign and saw someone parked, with thier hazards on, unscrew their radiator cap with the car still on.

He's in NY. With the colder temps and the exposed lower hoses, they'll probably feel cold. Nothing he's said indicates an air bubble.

The coolant won't be ice cold, but I was thinking maybe the hose got cold due to the cold weather.

Also, why did you think he had an air bubble?

Just seems weird, bought a new thermo and gasket, i guess im just goin to change it and see what happens, the lower hose shoul at leats be warm no ice cold, esp after a 30 min ride home. and the hoses should not feel rock hard, just seems that there is to much pressure or something, i guess il find out when i put new thermo in, any more info?? thanks guys

It doesnt matter if he lives in the cold or not. The lower and upper hses should be hot/warm. Not at all cold. A cold lower hose means you have a flow problem, either a bad tstat or an air pocket. When you installed the new rad, did you let it run and burp the air out? Put in your new tstat and let it run at normal operating temp for a good 10+ minutes to get air out of the system.

check the hose and radiator for a blockage ...... due to too many people working on the same vehicle, i've had this problem when a hose was slipped over the plug that came on a new radiator... and we wondered why we couldn't bleed it lol...... felt dumb when we figured it out, but yeah its possible. plug could have been inside the lower portion of the radiator and you many not have even seen it.

Put in newthermostat, ran it and same thing in the cold, i was not letting it run long enough to get the complete block hot enough to open the thermostat so i took it for a ride around town to get good and hot and its fine now. the 10 degree weather here does not help either. thanks guys for the input.
