coolant smell on my brothers car

Well my brother knows absolutely nothing about cars so I try to keep it up on maint as much as i can. A few years ago he let it overheat pretty bad and then when he added coolant he spilled it everywhere...that was in 05. Since then whenever it gets hot it smells like coolant but we have never had to add coolant again. The level never goes below the full level in the reserve tank.

Does this smell just cause he spilled it everywhere or is it leaking really slowly out of a hose or something?

Do you mean when the weather gets hot or when the engine heats up?

2005 was a long time ago and if you haven't added coolant since then, it's probably not a leak.
