So i just bought a 04 4runner v8 4x4 and I'm about to do the timing belt. So I went to the dealer to buy some coolant and he says that my 04 uses the red coolant. I remember reading on this forum that 04 they went with pink. The service history of this car shows the dealer did a coolant flush. So I am wondering how can I tell if its the red coolant or the pink. Also Can i Mix the two? Thanks

thought they changed to pink in 04, either way, the pink is premixed & very bright pink, (not a diluted red color) its also super long life. red = 30k, pink 100k. ive heard that mixing the red with pink is ok but it will lower it to the 30k mark, so u would be changing about every 2 years. look at it, if its bright pink, stick with it, but next time, u can change to pink if you want, just flush all the red out, & use it.

FYI, Advance Auto Parts does loan out tools, but I'm not sure if they have this special tool.

got a chain wrench from Harbor Freight to hold the crank pulley. For the pulley puller, you can rent that at autozone or kragen. But for me i didn't need it, my pulley just slide out as well as the crank sprocket. Everything else just uses regular tools, except for the passenger timing belt bearing. U need a 10mm allen wrench.
