Cooper A/T3 Tires

OK guys I need some advice. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on some new sneakers (275/60-20) and need to know what everyone has heard about the new Cooper A/T3's. They are a redesign on the old Cooper ATP's and were only released a few months back. They were the #1 pick by Consumer Reports even beating out the pricier Michelins. I really have yet to read one single negative thing about them, but wanted to see if anyone on here knows anybody that has them and what they think. The guys on the Tundra and Tacoma forums swear by these things... :cheers:

Just as a little FYI, I do 95% of my driving on the pavement and live in CT where we often get lots of ice, snow, and rain year around. I also drive ~35k miles a year and need to feel safe at all times behind the wheel. :lookout:

I've been looking at these and doing research since the CR article came out and haven't seen anything negative yet. However, I have seen several items regarding tire recalls from Cooper on their other tires, way more than I would have expected.

I would also like to hear some first hand knowledge of these or other Cooper tires from anyone on the forum.

That's great to hear! And I believe these are the ones I will be getting as well. I just truly hope the 275/60's don't rub too much. I plan on using Harper's fender mod and also (if necessary) melting and re-molding the fender well. I plan on ordering these as soon as I get that tax refund! :naughty:

FYI: With 275/60/20s, your speedometer will be off quite a bit.

I'm getting the Discoverer ATP's. I wanted something that was a bit more off road friendly and my guy at Discount Tire was very positive about them (he runs them on his truck).

If all goes well I should have them on my 4runner in about a week or so. they are going on the 17 inch TRD rims i'm ordering.

I haven't ordered mine quite yet; I have not done my taxes yet as I have been super lazy about it. I have two buddies at work who have put them on their new Tacoma's and the look, ride, and handling "is absolutely amazing". I'm sure I will loose a little mileage, but not expecting any big crazy drop.

FYI: With 275/60/20s, your speedometer will be off quite a bit.

Yea, I'm expecting to be off slightly. Driving a typical 70mph, the speedometer would show 67mph (66.983mph if it could go out to the thousandth decimal place). I can live with being 3mph off. That difference equates to a minimal 1,500 miles (less on the odometer) over the course of the 50,000 mile rated tires. Again, I can live with this and will take this into consideration for general maintenance intervals. :boink:

I have them on my 3/4 ton Diesel and am probably going with them on my 4Runner very soon. I have 35,000 miles on mine and they are still in fantastic condition and I spend a lot of time off pavement due to my business

Any pictures of them on your 4Runners would be appreciated

I have 275/60R20 Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck. And yes, they do rub a bit, but it is minor and easy to fix...I've just been lazy and haven't yet. I can honestly say it was a dead even tie between the Cooper AT3's, the Discoverer ATP's, and the Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I've also done a ton of research...I think you'll LOVE the AT3's. I chose Nittos based on the "stupid" factor— I just thought they looked the coolest. I can't complain, they've done great so far, aside from a bit less hydroplaning resistance than I'd hoped for...but that may also be my unreasonable expectations, as I'm used to driving far heavier vehicles.

I think you can't go wrong either way. I think the AT3's are probably the best choice for the type of driving you describe that you do...you'll be a happy camper.

Thanks UFG8R Runner! I have already bought the AT3's in the 275/60R20!! I should have them on within a few weeks (just waiting on lift to come in as it was backordered). I will post lots of pics and impressions afterwards!! :thumb3:

OK, the tires are finally on and I couldn't be happier!! I have about 600 miles on them already (just got them put on this week...)! I have driven them through a nice rain storm (for about 120 miles), pure sunshine on a hot day, and some cool nights as well (high 40's). These tires are without question the best "modification" I have done yet. Not only does the new size (275/60-20) look absolutely outstanding, but the truck tracks and rides incredibly! For anyone even half way considering new tires, I seriously urge you to take a look at the AT/3's...

Not one bit! Of course I also did Gary's (Harper) fender liner mod as well which prevented the tires from rubbing in the front. I also had Toyota set the tires as far forward as they could (with my stock UCA's anyway). :thumb3:
