Cooper Discoverer AT3 vs Highway A/S?

Hello. I am currently running Michelin X LT A/S tires in 265/65/17. They were on the 4Runner when I bought it used. Was thinking about going into a AT tire this time but I am concerned about road noise. One of the things I like about the 4Runner was that it is pretty quiet on the highway around 70 mph.

How much louder will the AT3 be as compared to what I have now?
I am told that they are not too loud but was hoping to get some opinions from folks here who have had them.

Itll take some getting used to if youve never had an all terrain or more aggressive tire before. They can also be a little more difficult to perfectly balance so there is some more vibration at highway speeds. I dont think the AT are comfortable a highway ride as the all season tires, but you get used to it.

If you dont do much trail riding or need the all terrain for snow, but like the looks, you might want to look into some of the hybrid tires. Something like a goodyear wrangler trailrunner (theres a lot of goodyear wrangler tires that would work) or the Cooper AT3 4s

I’ve had highway tires, all terrain tires and mud terrain tires on my 4Runner. I’ve never owned the Cooper AT3. I’ve owned A/T tires by Firestone, Yokohama, Toyo and Dick Cepek.

I didn’t notice more noise with any of the A/T tires, but M/T tires (Thunderer) were noticeably louder.

I’d say the Yokohama Geolandar G015 first, with the Firestone Destination A/T a close second. I had the Firestones in the stock size and no lift. I have the Yokohamas in 255/75/17, a 1” body lift and a 3”f/2”r suspension lift (Toytec/Bilstein).

I don’t have enough miles yet on the Toyos or the Dick Cepeks to make a good comparison. The Toyos are 255/80/17, and are in the pic below.

Thanks for the information. The more I think about it, I think I’m leaning towards a highway tire again. I’ve been doing a lot of road trips lately. Since I’m an in the boring Midwest, I have to drive 1000 to 1500 miles just to get to any areas of interests. E.g., CO, UT or AZ etc.

Yea those are pretty much the same tire as the master craft courser I had in the past and really liked ( cooper makes mastercraft)

Hmmm. Totally different experience. I'm on my second set of AT3's. They are the best tire I've ever had. Been through Michelins, K02's (horrible) and had Nitto Terras (not great). The AT3's are great in all conditions. They're a little louder than michelins but not really that much. The AT3's are great and I've been very happy with the tread wear and the performance. This won't be my last set of AT3's that's for sure.
