Costco refusing to install BFG KO2 265/70/17 with S112 speed rating. Any advice

And that has implications for what the actual needed safety margins are per tire when running LT. There is a whole thread about LT tire pressures but it is based entirely on the notion that 113 needs to be met. Once 107 is taken as the baseline, things change quite dramatically when it comes to the needed LT pressures to meet the safety margin.

Exactly. Nobody seemed interested in considering that when I made your point in another related thread on LT pressures.

Why were they doing anything with brake cleaner?

Also - 83 lb/ft on the lug nuts should not cause any damage to anything on the vehicle. You'd need something like 100 times the force to get into the range of damaging anything. The failure strength is probably in the range of 7,500 ft/lb. In short - it's pretty unlikely that they damaged your axle by torquing the lug nuts. If they somehow damaged your axle - it wasn't related to torquing the lug nuts on.

costco idiot torqued the nuts with the wheels OFF THE GROUND !!! the wheels were wacking back and forth ... drove home and had vibration .
I did the U joint repair bearings looked good not rusted but had damage on the needle bearings.. you torque wheels on the ground they are not professionals. brake cleaner is acetone spray it on your paint then you will see how the idiots did the damage.
my hubs had small amount of anti seize on it paint like amount very little so they sprayed the steel hub and then the painted aluminum wheels ..did not use rag just sprayed the sh*t of it ..

Costco did a pretty good job when they got started in tires, but have been going down hill for the past few yrs.

Thank God for the 35 yr. old mom-n-pop tire shop in the small town I live in.

Your junk wasn't damaged by the tire install. There's no possible way a u joint is damaged by lug nut install. not to mention that the tires all free wheel off the ground unless you have diff locks. This didn't happen. It's not possible. There's lots of ways to screw up a tire install, but this isn't one of them.

But at the end of the day, what did you end up going with?

The hot dog?
The chicken bake burrito roll thing?
Or the very berry sundae?

There's no way OP went to Costco and didn't at least get one of those things, even if their tire shop wasn't very helpful!!

They are doing you a favor. Go elsewhere.

Buying tires at Costco sucks because there is a 3 hour wait every time you go to get your tires rotated.

They have like 3 stalls for every 20 tire customers.

When's the last time you saw an empty Costco during business hours?

So they have more tire guys then check out staf......:bounce:
