Could it be the clutch?

I have a 88 4runner, 4 cylinder. About three weeks ago, i was doing 65 on the highway and my engine revved up for no reason. Didn't think much about it but about a week ago its become more consistent. As i shift into each gear the engine will rev up (after i release the clutch) and then accelerate. Acceleration has been much slower than before this issue started. A friend told me it's a sign my clutch is going bad. Thanks in advance.

yep thats exactly what mine started to do back in December. at first it only did it when hammering on the gas while putting it into fourth, but as soon as id let off the gas a little bit then it would catch and be fine. a couple weeks after i noticed it happening more than once or twice a week i jacked it up and changed out my clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.the old clutch was almost totally flat and worn down. if you do some searching about clutch issues which im sure you have then youll also see recommendations for different clutches, i recommend the aisin 1200 pound clutch and the flywheel from marlin crawler. its been working great on mine and the difference is night and day, plus if you do it yourself its not that expensive
