I have a low mileage JDM motor in my 2002. It's run flawless up until this point, was installed before summer. A few months ago I noticed a tick type noise at the front of the motor in the pulley /timing cover area. It wasnt really loud and I didn't think much of it because I don't drive the truck much because I have another daily driver. If I do drive it , it's back and fourth to work or around town. The last two days I had it out on highway and it seems sluggish when accelerating, say over 3000 rpm. Especially going up hills, just seems it takes a little longer to get up to speed. A few times I tried to pass and at about 4500 rpm it's started sputtering like it hit the rev limiter. Around town it's fine.
I did some searching and read about some people that had crank bolt loosen and cause these symptoms. Also read the cps could cause this. Can anyone back me up? Is this just a matter of pulling timing cover and tightening the bolt and or replacing cps? I'm not about to dump a lot more money back in this truck. Thanks
