Could use some help from fellow 3rd Gens

Hello to all,
I've had a 3rd Gen 4Runner for a good amount of time and have invested some money into it so far. When I originally was given my 4Runner (as I did in high school) I had limited money and did what I could do. My upgrades consist of a daystar 2.5 inch coil spring spacer, 295/75/16 toyo open country extreme edition, plasti-dip (wheels, door handles, mirrors, emblems, front grille), roof rack, front brush guard with 2 off-road lights, and rear light bar covers. Not too much but it has made a huge impact on the look of my 4Runner as I will post pictures to show the transformation. However, the point Im trying to get across is the fact that I have some cash to spend and want to upgrade again but have no clue what to do next. My mind is set on a snorkel but before I invest in 400$ I want to know that thats what I really want.

So If y'all can post any suggestions on ANY other upgrades I would love that. Im trying to have a badass rig and would like to know what others have done to make their 4Runner badass as well. Thanks, Tyler

for $400 id swap out the daystar coil spacers for some real coils, like the toytec eibach 3 coils up front, and some LC 7.5/8wrap coils for the rear. a snorkel is not gonna do you much, other than make you think you can go through deep water and you will end up swamping your rig out. no snorkel till after a locker or a winch. but before you get those, you need some real springs under your rig. or get some sliders
 
Snorkels are for diesel engines. You can submerge a diesel engine equipped with a snorkel and it will run, but a gas engine will stall.

I too was thinking about a snorkel and then changed my mind after watching a Land rover Defender program.

Try getting a WINCH. If you reinforce your grill guard (I used two 1/4 inch L-ion bars from the center of the grill guard to the front body mounts).
 
That is AWESOME! They are like Spitting images of each other.

BTW has anyone done any good interior mods or have any mods interior or exterior that they recommend doing?

I might be interested in doing a little build going on if i throw on a real lift and get thins going. Real interested in learning way more about the 4Runner.

Also look at replacing your regular dome lights with LEDs. Here -----> Amazon.com: Toyota 4Runner White Interior LED Package (6 Pieces): Automotive

I am going to do the LED stuff when I get some time.

um i dont know where you got your info, but snorkels work on gas motors too... as me how i know

and i have had water over the mirrors in my truck and it ran just fine, snorkels work, but there is a big danger with that too, so i dont recommend or endorse doing that -both of us are in SAR, and so there was a reason for that trip across the creek and im pretty sure both of us know our rigs very well...

Agreed, snorkel looks cool but if you really want to improve the performance and capability of your rig start thinking about traction like a locker. Then think of recovery like a winch and or Hi-lift jack. Of course don't for get about armor... it's a slippery expensive slope :)

Overall you need to think about what YOU want to accomplish with your rig and not just 'a bad ass' truck. Think of what kind of wheeling do you want to do, what is your terrain, will you have people around to help or do you need to be self sufficient?

Once you have an idea of what kind of wheeling YOU want to do,then you can begin to build for that goal. Then you can use this site more effectively to help you build your rig appropriately.

Or you can just slap a bunch of shit on it and be a mall crawler if you want. :laugh:

Did you tune your CB with an SWR meter? I have mine in the ashtray and it works perfectly.

Seriously though, I have been an EMT here in Idaho so have an appreciation for what you SAR guys do. Still have to say wow on that one. Don't try this at home!!

i decided to go with a whip because i heard that you dont have to tune them but it still didnt work very well. im debating on just getting the adjustable firestick and a meter. we will see
