Courtesy and Decent Manners

I became a member of this forum in November when I needed to get information about a $30,000+ vehicle that I was thinking about buying. I wasn't disappointed. This forum provided me with all I needed to learn about the 4Runner.
This forum, because of all the terrific members here, helped me get one of the best vehicles I could have ever hope to get, and at a good price.
After I got my 4Runner I could have easily posted a few photos, said "thanks guys", and disappeared from this forum forever. I chose not to do that.
In the process of getting all my stupid questions answered by patient, generous members, I became part of the community of members here. I made a lot of new friendships, and also had a few scrapes with a couple of my new friends in this 4Runner community.
But lately I've watched, and been involved in a couple of pretty serious dust-ups with a few members that involved not just disagreement, but blatant rude and belligerent posting.
As my sig says, I'm an ignorant old fart. I've tried to grow beyond and above the arrogant "know it all" of my youth. And I'm trying to not to be the tedious "know it all" in my old fart years.
If I've come across that way to any of you, I apologize.
But my point here is that this forum is a wonderful source of info about something we all can agree on....the 4Runner.
I've seen other good forums get torn apart and ruined by ego, bad manners, and rude behavior. Let's not let that happen here.
It doesn't cost you anything to say a simple 'thank you' to someone who reaches out to you with advice.
Even if they're wrong. Even if you don't like them.

Now JP, I have a bone to pick with you. It's about your network's spilling your politics over our border. Can you do anything about keeping the clown to the south of us gagged up? He wasted so much of my precious airtime last night. Hard to avoid...

Just joking. See how easy it is to pick a fight on the internet?

Thanks for the observations. Yeah, it's a decent forum. Heck, you even let us furiners participate.
It can get rowdy at times but I ignore those parts and let the Mods do their thing, keeping it on an even keel.

Yeah, I know what you mean... Couple days ago, I posted a video of my 4Runner in the snow and all I got was negative comments. I mean, come on people, if you have something bad to say, Private Message or eMail. Someone took time to post a video and share it with this community, so at least, next time, be more considerate.. Would this member like me to say it is boring or horrible picture taking skills next time you post pics up here? I mean, this person cannot even figure out how to post it up on a forum yet.... give me a break!

Bravo!

JP,
To that I say bravo. Call it mid winter blahs, but there has been a little bit of an edge in some posters comments. I'm not too concerned, as their presence on the board is transitory. As you have read, most of us are laid back informed contributors and I, in particular have enjoyed your contributions, be it historical, poetic, musical or automotive.

And now, even my children need Passports to cross the border; when traveling to Mont Tremblant:(

I'm not familiar with your destination so this may not help you. There has been some confusion on the new rules but they only apply to air travel. You can still drive across the border without a passport.

JP,

Well said my man !! I too get caught up in things once in a while why I don't know. This is the best forum I've ever been on , the people are great and I honestly look forward to being on here every day to see what people are up to with their 4R's.

It really is quite a great community here. Its funny how you can become close to people , look forward to hearing from them and things they are going through and doing through , and yet walk right past them on the street and never even know.

Sometime it's good to agree to disagree... (nicely).

Thanks for the reminder post, JP. I am very happy that this forum has such great members and has grown so fast. What started out as 2 members (Gatorgreg & I), this forum now has grown close to 11,000 members!

Thank you to all the forum members.

Bla bla bla... that's cuz your video SUCKED. Don't post LAME material!

j/k dude....:D

Excellent thread, I couldn't agree more.

If you want proof that this forum rules, go check out MP3Car.com and see all the fools on there. Alot of good info, but mostly flaming. I very seldomly post or even visit there anymore.

EDIT: I did not see your j/k message before I posted... I think you were talking to me?...

This forum is great and the members make it great, by far the most active one for me. There's very little flaming here and the mods/admins do a great job running the show.

Toyota forums in general tend to have more level headed members, even when newbies start new threads that's been discussed and beaten to the death.
