Courtesy and Decent Manners

I kind a sorta resemble that remark. Although the numbers game I'm not playing. I have posted quite a bit in the past few weeks though. I don't mean to sound self conscious here, but was taken aback a little with your post for other reasons.

In my case I've found a huge new world of internet friends who love what I'm really starting to get into. I've only had my 4runner since 4/30/07, and finding this site has me more excited to be a 4runner owner everyday. This forum, its members and the knowledge I've gleaned from them, and my excitement of new 4runner ownership has me jazzed.

Sorry to say this, but comments like yours could take the fun out of it for some especially when made in a post that's titled like this one. Maybe you should have saved it for a new thread I don't know. I'm sure we all try our best with the complexity of the English Language too.

This is by far in all respects the best forum I've come across, and participate in.

Not sure which nerve I touched but jpalaska has a point and I've simply added to it. People from other countries post here and I wonder how much they can understand from some of these posts. In some cases English is not their native language and they still do better than some who grew up with English! By the way who died and made you moderator.
 
Well at least I'm trying. Some of this stuff is not readable. While I'm at it it seems that some people post just to increase their number of posts. Also some people with problems asking for help already know the answer to the problem and are just playing a guessing game with those of us who would genuinely like to help. Again either trying to raise their number of posts or just bored to tears. This kind of makes me not want to bother at all.

As my sig says, I'm an ignorant old fart. I've tried to grow beyond and above the arrogant "know it all" of my youth. And I'm trying to not to be the tedious "know it all" in my old fart years.
If I've come across that way to any of you, I apologize.
But my point here is that this forum is a wonderful source of info about something we all can agree on....the 4Runner.
I've seen other good forums get torn apart and ruined by ego, bad manners, and rude behavior. Let's not let that happen here.
It doesn't cost you anything to say a simple 'thank you' to someone who reaches out to you with advice.
Even if they're wrong. Even if you don't like them.

By the way JP I'm an ignorant 63 year old fart and have had the same reaction as you. Thanks for opening this thread. You have more courage than I do as I've been thinking the same thing. But I sure love my 4runner!:D

Thanks for the comments about the dog. Actually, he was an AKC-registered Sheltie with unusually long fur, but no way to know that from an avatar-sized photo.

The list goes on and on. Actually, I am a super mod on one of the biggest automotive forums in the southeast (importatlanta.com) and things over there get ridiculous with the flaming and nonsense all the time.

Although I haven't been a member on here very long, I have been lurking for probably close to a year. I only decided to join because of how great this forum and the members are. The funny thing is, most very specialized boards are friendly and helpful. I am a member on MANY forums, and there are only 3 including this one that are always fun to get on and participate. The other two are very specialized boards like this one. One is only for 88-91 Civic/CRX owners and one is only for Infiniti FX owners (I sell Infiniti parts for a living).

Thanks again for having such a fantastic forum! :bigok:
 
yeah, x2 that last post. "jeepsunlimited" is the other forum I frequent and it is just as great as this one..... whereas anyone who has spent time in the MP3Car.com forum knows that it is FULL of egotistical flamers. I flat out stopped even looking around there, not just stopped posting.

Please think twice of the consequences to the forum and all the other members before hitting the submit reply button if your post has any negative content. Be an optimist, keep it positive.
 
I want to support and echo the fun part of the forum. I feel the same as our Anchorage friend. I had wanted a 4 Runner for a decade but with kids growing and costs going up I put it off for the right time. Now that they are doing well, I was free to get the ride I wanted. I am not disappointed more impressed than anything. Discovering this forum has been a GREAT asset, not only for knowledge for enjoyment. In terms of manners, I for one, applaud the effort and dedication that Thai and Gator Greg put into it. I really don't care that they don't "own" a 4Runner. That said, we all have battles to fight and this forum is fun. I hope that it can stay that way and I am sure that is what Thai would want.

I think personal criticism is as the member said, "best checked at the door" and I support with a "trigger finger" banning those people who are rude and destructive. If we as members know that mean and harsh tone will not be tolerated we will respect it, as well as having fun..........

Onward.

Wow, it's pretty cool to see my old thread get resurrected from the archives. At the time I wrote it there was a particularly rude guy who was eventually banned for being an obnoxious troll.

But, reading my old post I feel a little guilty, 'cause I haven't posted on this terrific forum for a long time. It's not that I lost interest. I still check in and read the new posts regularly. It's mostly that I haven't felt that I have much new to offer in a new post.

I still absolutely love my 'almost new' 4Runner, just the way it was when it arrived in December 2006. I haven't done a single mod to it, I even still have the original Dunlop tires on it, after 2 Alaskan winters. Since I work out of a home office I don't have to commute, and only have 5200 miles on the odometer.

In a few weeks I'll be taking my 4Runner out into the country to 'harvest' my first king salmon of the season with 5 of my college roommates from Boston College, who are coming up here to celebrate our 40th college reunion.

There'll be a lot of beer, posturing, ball-busting and b.s., just like in college!

JP always good to read your posts! When you and your cronies go for Salmon post some pics up. That would be a great contribution to the board.

Since this is the courtesy and decent manners thread, I will refrain from any comment about BC and congratulate them on their NCAA championship (cheaters) and wish them success (break a leg) in their pursuit of another title (hope they finish dead last)!
