sup everyone! i just recently traded my 97 4door civic (pretty much stock) +$1000 for a 2000 4runner (base model). i got the civic for my wife. we owned it for about a year and recently she said she wanted something bigger, so i traded.

its got no running boards, fender flares, roof rack, fogs, and cargo cover. im actually looking for all that stuff when i get back from deployment.

a little info about me. im not new to forums or toyotas. my dad owned a 97 4runner when they first came out.

my first vehicle was an 88 yota pickup 22R 2WD single cab/short bed, leather bench, slammed on some oldschool racing hart wheels.

second yota was an 89 supra. sadly, no turbo on that. rebuilt the motor and it was still leaking oil. so i gave that to my uncle.

ive had a few other cars and i currently also own a 96 integra RS that ive done pretty much all i wanted to do on it. maybe get it repainted when i get back from deployment too. heres a front and rear shot of the teg.

thats about me for now. sadly, i wont be modding much anytime soon because im deploying to the gulf this 28th. but i am in search of a cargo cover.

ive been looking thru the forum and it looks like most of you guys go off roading, mudding, etc..

how do you guys feel about just making it for street use? thats what i plan on doing with mine. pretty much look like this but silver and a subtle drop because, the way i see it, theres no point to raise a 2WD

this is by far the sexiest 4runner i've seen! simple, clean, and elegant

I might get flamed from the others on this, but I think if done right (and not overboard) that a little drop can look good on 'em. The key for me is that it has to be subtle. Not overly flashy.

Yeah, that pic has floated around here a couple times. I can understand not actually using it off road, and I think the reason that pic has floated around so much is that it isn't super chopped down and butchered. The stock suspension from 2000 was pretty low, so I wouldn't try to drop it at all. New tires and rims could change your look alot as long as you don't go too far from stock.

Custom Taco's has alot of the super chopped ones etc. I personally would never ever do to a truck or SUV what they do over there. If you want to change the suspension, I think it would be interesting if you could find some that are softer than stock. Most that are talked about here are stiffer than stock.

Even though you're tending towards the street look, I'd suggest browsing the forum (picture and build threads) to see if the aggressive look is right for you. You'd be surprised how aggressive yet subtle some lifted 4runners are. And if not, then I think the look you're after is quite nice.

I had a bagged truck back in college so I clearly am not against the look, but I opted for a 2.5" lift with slightly bigger tires for my 4runner and love it. It's functional and looks nice.

That would be a cool build, and for me....a welcomed change from the norm....which is a lifted rig with mud tires on it. Just wish we had more info for you regarding how to drop the truck a little......

i was up under the runner the other day looking at how the suspension was set up. looks like i really cant go lower unless quite a bit of new parts are purchased. i just looked at the front and from what i saw, theres a bump stop at the bottom of the LCA fork thats right below the frame. and theres about an inch or so gap between the stop and frame.

i guess i wont drop it but just get a bigger wheel setup and the fender flares.

im not going to go crazy with this. its the wife's daily car so just a few OEM enhancements will do.

if you look at the black 4runner that i posted, all it is, is really the wheels that makes it look awesome. everything else is OEM besides the spoiler. and i believe, the front lower half of the bumper is from that 'surf' vers. or a hilux. right?

I like your ideas. Im sure even if you dropped it an inch or so it would ride nice and handle good. Plus yours is 2wd. I say go for the street use . I have seen some slammed 4runners, and it kills me when they are 4wd...

if it was 4WD, id definitely lift it.

id love to lower mine to have an even wheel gap all around but from what i saw, its a lost cause. id have to do some major suspension modding to go lower than an inch.

very clean ride, do it island style take out coils, buy some really wide rims, and stretch them tires so wide that the guy behind you knows what brand tires you own

I really wanted too chime in on that black runner, IDK if anybody remembers but the owner post a thread(also posted his mkiii supra) with info on his runner and if I recall he mention that was a photoshop pic... I watched his videos of his 4runner and it appeared stock height.. :shrug:

If you ask me photochop does wonders lol.. Maybe one of these days I'll stop being lazy and wash my t4r so i can post my build thread..
