Cracked Dash Replacement

I know Toyota sent out a letter some time ago detailing cracking on dashboards with an option to replace.

The cracks I see on my '03 4Runner are not that much of a distraction (mostly along edges and corners). I have 236k miles on it. With the age and mileage is it still worth the cosmetics?

I did inquire with the local dealer on the option to replace. They indicated that I would need to make an appointment to have one of their techs check out the dash and then it would be a process to order one to replace if needed.

Has anyone proceeded with replacing their dashboard? How long did it take? Was it completely free of charge?

The actual replacement of the dashboard and part itself is free is it falls under the warranty requirements.

It's about 2hrs of labor to replace the dash pad, I have been getting Camry's down to a little over an hour and 4Runners a little less than an hour and half. Depending on the work load at your dealership they may hold it until the end of the day (I wouldn't rush the them on this.)

It's up to you, if you want to have a nice new dashboard for free; most likely your vehicle will fall under the ZE6 CSP. If you don't, you don't have to do it.

Just make sure they don't do any recalls that you don't want done when they have your vehicle (i.e. 90L "Pedal Chop" or BST "Brake Safety Technology" Update)

Wait, this is still available? My local dealer shrugged me off when I asked about it, then said they would get their "warranty guy" to email me and I never got an email.

Who do I go to? Should I just be more pushy with the dealer?

Well I attached all the relevant documentation in the thread I linked. You have until 2017 to get it done...
 
I called my local dealership and they kept giving me the run around so I called up another dealership about 40mins away and they were awesome, said to bring it in to look at and then schedule an appointment. Great service and brand new dash! I'd call around if your local dealership is playing around.
 
Just had mine done about 2 weeks ago. And OP, I have almost your exact mileage and I am not the first owner. I was;t gonna do it at first but the cracks actually got worse recently and I knew they would continue to do so.

I called the dealership and then brought it in for them to check it out. Said they would order the dash but it could be months for it to come in stock. Amazingly, they called me about an hour later and said they actually had one in stock.

Color seems to match pretty good. Much better than I think some others have reported. Could use a quick hit of armor all.

Be ready for the dealer to call you and try to up-sell you on any other things they find. For me it was diff fluids, fuel induction cleaning and spark plugs. I've done the diffs myself recently and I run fuel system cleaner before oil changes. The spark plugs do need changing but I couldn't bring myself to pay $300+ for something I'm more than capable of doing myself.
 
I called Monday at a nearby dealership asking about the dash replacement. After explaining I was an 1 1/2 hours away the lady had me send pics of the dash and vin#. I called back this afternoon and I have an appointment at 9:30 Friday morning. I had to question such quick response but she assured me it is my dash. I'll update when I get it back. 2004 limited,3rd owner,178000 miles. The is no mileage limit.

Parts are starting to ship regularly and quickly, our dealership is sort of stocking some dash boards. We have a stack like 20 of them to be picked up for warranty we did in the last month.

We just got ours back ('04) and yes, it was no cost. It took prob'ly 2 months from the time the dealer gave the OK until we got word it was in....lots of dashes going all over the country....just take it in and then wait! Hey, you can't beat the price!
 
I have to applaud Toyota for fixing these.

Changing cracked dashboards on 10+ year old vehicles. That is phenomenal.

I do not think they have any legal obligation to do these out of warranty repair work. 10 years is a long long time especially if you vehicle sits outside in the Arizona sun! At 10 years things will crack and fade.

I just spoke with Koons Toyota in Annapolis, this thread reminded me to get this done as i do have a few slight cracks. They told me i had to schedule a service appointment and bring it in. They would then take pictures of the entire dash and any cracks there are. Then they send it to corporate to either be approved or denied. If it's approved it's then a 3 month backorder. Anyone getting this in Maryland?
 
To good to be true,and I was right. I posted previously that in less than a weeks time my dash was in. Drove 1 1/2 hours and at checking in was again assured they checked and it was the right dash. Waited an hour and the apologies started, wrong dash. Picture of vin was sent and verified over the phone so I don't understand the error. They will order again plus free oil change and Navigation upgrade my next visit.
 
I literally pulled in the service bay at Toyota, woman opened my door, wrote down my miles, then Typed my name,address and phone number. And that's it she ordered my dash

I agree - Toyota has really owned up to this. In shopping for a used 4th gen here in Florida I saw some really badly cracked dashes - the sun here can be brutal on vehicles if not garaged. Fortunately the '05 I got has no problems with the dash yet, but it came from up north - so we'll see how it does. There was a letter from Toyota to the previous owner in the glove compartment telling them about the extended warranty on the dash - I figure I'll wait til a month before it expires and just go in for a new dash at that time :)
 
Did anyone experience any loose or squeaking dash after replacement? I am just wondering how intrusive it is to replace? Does it require taking apart the whole dash, instrument cluster and airbags?
