Observations when doing a cracked dash replacement

I have an '04 SR5 that had a pretty badly cracked dash. I'd ordered up a replacement out of an '06 or '07 SR5 to replace it, fingers crossed that I wasn't going to have to do any airbag splicing or replace my guages, etc.

Turns out the mounting bracketry (plastic) for the passenger-side airbag is a little different and required me to trim a little to make my earlier airbag fit. The harness connector is identical, but the wiring length/location and connector orientation is a little different. Other than that, after I was finished the only thing you can tell that the dash is not out of this vehicle is that there is a slight gab between the dash and top of the guage cluster. We're talking maybe 5mm or so. This area also required some trimming of the plastic dash bracketry for the cluster so it would fit into the dash at the top.

All other bracketry, clips, etc appear to locate in the same spots as my old dash. Glove box fits the same. It was a pretty quick process too. If it wasn't for having to modify and screw with the airbag bracketry I probably would've been done in 3 hours. I'm a pretty good shadetree mechanic for what it's worth. Definitely not a pro.

Thanks for that. My '03 dash is an eyesore. It seems '06 and later plastic is better. The candidate dashes at the JY do not have the center speaker cutout which is present in my Limited.

I got mine on eBay. There were some others on there that had the JBL system hole.
