***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Yup, cracks here too.... Man.... This stinks... I guess not enough folks have the issue.

Told toyota to document, taking it by the dealer so they have a record of it.

My only concern is the airbags... which looking at the crack probably has no effect on the airbags... but....

What will have to happen is someone will have to die in a fiery crash because the airbags prematurely deployed though a cracked dash before toyota does anything about this....

And they just took Fords ranking in the automotive world...

Cracked Dash Customer Service Response

I received a response on my claim regarding the cracked dash. Pretty generic. I guess I'll take it up to the dealer to make sure they have it on file. Here's what they sent me back:

We are sorry to hear the concerns you are having with the dashboard in your 2004 4Runner, and apologize this aspect of the vehicle did not meet your expectations. We do not show a Special Service Campaign or recall for the condition you described, and thus do not have specific insight to provide.

Because we are unable to directly inspect your vehicle, we are not in a position to provide a technical diagnosis of the concern you are experiencing. In order to properly assess your concerns, we encourage you to contact Laura Willis, the Customer Relations Manager at Toyota Of Dallas; we feel confident that she will address your concerns in a courteous and professional manner.

Please be aware the information you have provided is used in combination with warranty claims and other customer contacts to track trends with our vehicles. You guys are freaking me out.

I've only had my 2004 Sport for about 10 months but if these issues keep coming up, I may be unloading it (and it was pampered by an old retired air force captain before me).

Let's see:

- Cracked dash (not on mine, yet, knock wood)
- Squeaks and cracks in the seat frames
- Never ending clunk in the drive train (greasing the slip yoke helps for a while).
- Damn stupid tail light replacement design on the spoiler (just annoying as all get out).
- Rattly sunroofs.

Lots of weird little annoying things with these trucks (and some major ones). Nice truck, but once you've had it for a while you realize a lot of these.

I have a 2004 limited and the dash looks fine no cracks, I don't have room in the garage for it, I may have at some point used armor all when it was brand new but have not used it for a very long time. I live in Burbank, CA and it does get hot here but I do use a windshield cover during the summer months. I must be very fortunate I would hate seeing cracks on my dash cuz that will get old quick so I do feel for you guys, I love my truck but it will make me sick at the site of a cracked dash.

My truck is in the shop getting a blown head gasket replacement and it's killing me to pay $3000 for the repair that only have 135k miles on it. I wish I had another car and would have done the repair myself. I thought Toys was suppose to last? My 1996 grand Cherokee went 175k without any major problems. Had to sell cuz of an accident that made it drive strangely after the fix.

Sorry to see those cracked dashes.

FORD is starting to look nice...it's almost time for me anyways while my dsh is not yet cracked.

To be honest i am not considering another Toyota for my next SUV, the lack of Toyota Corp supporting me in my head gasket put me off , I payed $38000 for my 2004 Limeted but in reality $42000 with the HG repair, and now you guys scare me with a $1800 dash replacement

I would have been happy if they payed a percentage of the repairs but not doing a thing saddens me

Might as well buy a less expensive brand

I've had my '03 SE for less than a week...
During the test drive I noticed some cracking on the dash from the previous owner trying to pry the center/radio panel from the dash. Since then I've noticed minor cracking on the edge above the gauge cluster and some peeling on the passenger side. I just hope it doesn't get worse... I'll contact Toyota as well to push the issue. I won't have much of a case since it's obvious it was pried at some point.

i just got my 04 4runner and the dash is cracked. I figured sincethe previous owner did work at busch gardens so it being left at the parking lot all day caused the issue. But being in florida this is a common problem. I didn't realize it was so widespead.

vicrc, I had an 04 sport trac and I can happily say that was an amazing vehicle. It was wrecked which is why I got rid of it. The only issue I've noticed with fords (light trucks and full sized cars) is that the transmissions are weak. Start to slip around 90k and will continue to slip up to 200K+ without failing(which is what my moms crown vic is at). Engines are great though. any 150 or 250 diesel tho are great vehicles top to bottom.

I have personally heard otherwise on the diesel 250s... Had a friend who had two of them in his family and both currently were either sold or don't work anymore. The repair bills were above 5~10 grand on each, lucky he sold his just in the nic of time to the dealer and bought a crown vic. According to him though, I think they may have revised them since.

the older 250 diesels are POS's i forget the name off the top of my head but the 09+ ones are the way to go.

Found a crack in the dashboard of my 03. Located above the passenger airbag. Very dissapointed!

I also have cracks on my dash just like gaterose - above the instrument cluster at the edge of the dash. It looks like a seam. Ironically, mine is an '03SR5, same as the majority of the posters. I'll watch this thread and see what Toyota will do with it.

I have the same crack. I had no idea where it came from. It just appeared one day. Hopefully by follwing this thread I can have it fixed or replaced.

My 2003 4runner has cracks and are on the passengers side around the air bag. And I've always keep it in the garage and I have a dashmat also. Just one day I looked under the dash mat and there they were..

I was browsing the site to see if anyone has installed a dash before, I'm not wanting to have a dealer do it.

And I'm looking at a new used 4 runner or tundra and giving our current one to my wife, who wants the dash fixed. :ybrick:

Chose the right time to log into the forum after a long hiatus. 03 4Runner SR5 Sport with 162K miles (was in the middle of shopping for an FR-S / BRZ, no plans to trade it in). I cannot find any cracks on my dashboard but now I'll have to watch it. I was going to hand it down to my folks - now I don't know.

My 03 sits garaged when it's parked, and has been in Southern California most of the time.

My parents had a 95 Pathfinder (now scrapped after an accident) with far worse cracks on its dashboard. They have moved on to a RAV/4.

... are getting worse. I took it to my local dealer, who said that there is not anything that could be done by either the dealer or Toyota. I went to my car guy (not the dealer). He found me a product that we are ordering. Im going to try to get it installed next week and I will post photos as well. It appears to be better than dash replacement.

Wow, some of those pics are pretty upsetting. I have an '04 Sport with Grey vinyl and 120k miles. I do not have any cracks on my dash yet. I do not treat the dash with anything, in fact I don't often clean it. Not sure how I dodged this bullet, but I don't know if I should Armor All on a regular basis, or keep doing nothing.

looks like a cover for about 204 to 220, how about just buying a dash mat and cover it up?

2006 - Ok so far

2006, parked outside during the day in So Cal. Sometimes I get in and the dash is so hot you can't touch it. So far, no cracks. Of course when I get to my car today there probably will be one. Ha ha. Good luck with your guys, hope Toyota helps you out.
