How much is a new carpet from the dealer?
Mine is cracked as well. major spider cracks around the Airbag on the passengers side. This started around 120K. Unfortunately, I thought the crack, which goes the length of the entire dash (above cluster) was a line from the factory from when it was molded together, but I came to realize this wasn't the case and that it should have never been there. I will post some pics tomorrow.
My 4runner has cracks too!
2004 with only 59K miles and well taken care of garage kept. I've seen one cracks early last year, but now it's around five mainly around the the passenger side. Sun and heat have nothing to do with this it gotta be material defect. I've a '96 Honda Accord park outside 24/7 365 days for the last 15 years and not a single crack.

Purchased a 2003 Limited 4runner a week ago and this vehicle has the dash cracking issue. It is in pretty bad shape, but I'm not sure I have a case to report it to Toyota since I knew about it when I purchased the vehicle. Regardless, I am hoping a recall gets issued in the near future.

Just a quick tip for a helpful preventative measure against the cracked dash. I am not representing any business and this is just my 2 cents. Some of the top automotive window film brands (3M & LLumar) carry ceramic and nano ceramic films that block 99% of UV rays, reduce glare and reject solar heat. Some of these films can be installed on the windshield without detection (you have to go with a high transparency). It is not legal in all states but most of the window films available are virtually transparent when installed..I have 70 on mine. I used to work in the business and can tell you that it helps out tremendously with heat, fading and glare..not to mention to UV protection...all those factors contribute to the cracked dash. Most shops charge anywhere from 100-200 dollars to get the windshield done but if you plan on keeping you rig for a while i would recommend it. Here are a few products I would suggest:

Oct 28, 2013 Update.
The local Toyota dealer quoted $2,200 to replace the dash. The National customer center offered to refund half that amount if I did the repair (they said they knew this was my first Toyota and wanted to make a good impression). I said that was still a tidy sum for a relatively small crack - I then mentioned a "clunking sound" that the dealer had diagnosed as a drive shaft issue (known issue where the fit is too tight and when it releases it clunks). They said they'd totally cover the drive shaft replacement as an alternative to the dash replacement. The drive shaft work was completed and I received a $540 reimbursement check from Toyota for the repair last week. I suppose I left money on the table by trading a $1,100 partial reimbursement for $540, but my ultimate out of pocket is zero.
Impressed with the customer service! They clearly stated that this was outside their normal process, and that they couldn't necessarily do this for others, so Your Mileage May Vary....
It also implies that perhaps they are close to acknowledging there is a real issue with the dash materials. So keep filing the complaints!
lol so what now.... FOrd.... Chevy.... Dodge... good with that! May get a good 80k out of them, they are disposable vehicles
I have three 4runners, two 2003s and one 2004. One of the 2003s has a cracked dash on the leading edge of the dash over the instrument cluster, similar to some that have posted photos in this thread. I called Toyota today and made a report. I have the claim number 1310311595. I talked to a woman named Pat. She told me that it was out of warranty, that there was no way to verify how the truck was kept up and very politely essentially told me that had no case. I asked her to document the claim nonetheless and I would bring it up with my service advisor next time the truck was at the dealer. Not much assistance......Phil

I have also called Toyota and put my two cents worth in about my cracked dashboard (was issued a case number too). All they said is that there were no recalls on this problem (of course not being the dashboard cost almost $1200 and the labor to put it in almost $850)!
Even if a person wanted to invest in a new dashboard, how do we know we are not replacing the old dashboard with the new dashboard made of the same material to crack all over again?! A person at Toyota parts dealership said that: "Toyota might have even recognized that they have/had a problem with the dashboards cracking and changed the formulation for the dashboards so they don't crack HOWEVER, they don't have to let anyone know as it isn't a part of the Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (MVSS i.e. it doesn't affect the safety of the vehicle)."
I am still up in the air as what I am going to do if anything. I am looking at different options including nothing at all. Sure wish Toyota would step up to the plate and take care of all of us that have this problem.

I have a 2003 SR5 I bought used with 109k miles, black, a Florida car. It has severe cracking on the passenger side, I assumed it was the heat. I tried covering it up with Plastidip with moderate success. I will give the number a call after the holidays but I strongly doubt we will get anything other than a lukewarm apology if we get that.

I have an 03 with the same issue. I purchased a molded plastic overlay from Carid and it worked perfect. Great fit.
