***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Crock on the Dashboard

Thanks. I edited my first post with my case number.

I have 2004 SR5 4+4 Toyota 4runner I have the same problem first I told somebody cut my dashboard but it's so fine crock it's a straight line right above the glove department obviously factory default after I read these other issues I will call the dealer get my case number.

I just purchased a 2005 SE about 2 weeks ago. I just noticed a hairline crack on the drivers side right above the gauge cluster. I obviously didn't see it when I bought the 4Runner, but now I'm concerned it could get worse. The Toyota dealership includes a 1 month 1,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Wonder if they will cover it? I also need them to check the drivers side seat belt as it doesn't retract very well.

I have a hairline crack on the passenger side and the same thing with the drivers seat belt.

I also have the same issue with mine. I have at least a 100 cracks in my 04 SR5. I have not used products on it and use a reflective windshield protector wherever I park the vehicle. It started with one crack right above my control panel and now it's over the entire passenger side and pieces are starting to fall off. I will definitely make a call to Toyota concerning this. Thanks for the info.

As I previously posted I just bought my 05 on 01/18/14 and just realized i had about a 6" hairline crack that ran along the ridge right above the gauge cluster. It's very hard to see unless the sun hits it just right. I have also found another crack about an inch long on the right side of the gauge cluster. I took it back to the dealership and they said they couldn't replace it, but would take the car back if I was unhappy. What really bothers me is they give a 1 month 1K bumper to bumper warranty and told me to bring it back if anything was wrong... Right before I left the manager took my number and said he would see what he could do...I may be willing to split the cost, but who knows what that will be. I guess I will wait and see what they say.... by the way I purchased the 4Runner at a major Toyota dealership and I assume they missed they crack too, because I know they wouldn't put a 4runner on their used lot with the cracked dash.

Dash boar crack

I live in small town in the carribean, Puerto Rico. My 4th gen 4 Runner stay in my garage since new 2005. Never its in direct sun.

Who can help me?

Ricardo Arribas
Cayey, Puerto Rico

I'm now worried after reading this thread. Maybe it's just a matter of time or Toyota did something on later 4th gen models . 08 4runner haven't been in a garage under socal sun no cracks yet .

Mine has always been in the garage as well. I work from home so it is the garage more often than not and it still cracked all over.

It seems pretty limited to the 03-05 models

I bought a DashTex model from Dash Design, I like it, its alot better than the carpet looking ones. and beats looking at my awful dash.

That looks pretty good!! If mine gets really bad (only a small crack) I may have to look into that. Do you remember if they had one with a hole for the center JBL dash speaker?

No they dont, mine has a speaker also, on their website it says their material is thin enough it wont affect factory speakers, i cant really notice any difference either.

Does anyone know if the dash material or design changed in 06 and newer?

I rather do this:

Coverlay® - Toyota 4Runner 2003 Dashboard Cover

I had this cover before and they are awesome!!! I think they refund your money back if you are not fully satisfy, they are plastic and will last you a lifetime.

My .02 cents from my automotive knowledge is this.

One or more of the chemicals that the supplier used for the dash is breaking down over time. I would not think that anything we do or don't do will stop this chemical breakdown from happening. There is a chemical in the plastics/resins that is breaking down with time.

It would be hard to tell if they changed the manufacturing of the material. Only Toyota would be able to answer that. A lot of times you can determine this from part#s.

Might just have to wait and see if the newer models start doing this. So far I havent seen any 06 and up with this problem.
