You can contact them direct and have them change it, cuz the product comes direct from the manufacture. They didnt ship mine until the following day

I'm curious, I've heard theories on how it happens, but it doesn't make sense how a garage kept car like mine with a dash mat can completely crack only on the dashboard like this but the door panels are still perfect, made of seemingly the same material.
Any help on how to recover this would be great too because Coverlay wants $100 to ship it to me which I don't really want to pay honestly.

Does the dash mat at all inhibit the function of the passenger Air Bag?

I just bought an '03 yesterday. It came with the cracked dash. While I agree that a well-cared-for, garage kept truck should not suffer from the sorts of quality issues, I have to say that the whole reason I went with the 4Runner is because I knew that they hold up where it counts.
The dash pads suck, but a cracked pad won't leave you stranded on the road like an Explorer will.
I'll be getting one of those covers from JCWhitney later this week.

Actually this is incorrect. A recall is not the only way. Acura's from the mid 2000s also had this issue and plenty of people complained. If you took it to the dealer, the dealer would file a goodwill claim. It was better for them because they would hopefully avoid pissing off the wrong person that would file a lawsuit to force a recall. I did it last year on my Acura and they only asked me to pay like $100 which I gladly did for a new dash that had about 5-6 large cracks. From what I heard from a friend in the aftermarket industry, plenty of manufacturers have this issue up until the late 2000s. I think maybe in 2007 or 2008 it was fixed.
I'm currently monitoring this thread as my wife's 2004 4Runner has pretty much the same cracks as shown here.
I just called and told them about my Acura, but they still don't have this listed for out of warranty coverage. Need more people to call!

After reading through many posts in this thread I jumped out of my chair, grabbed my flashlight and ran out to the garage to look at the dash on my 2004 4Runner. I found nothing, not one crack. How is this possible?
Maybe it's time I confess... I'm actually part vampire, I HATE direct sunlight. I've always assumed my cars hate it as well. Over the past 10 years I've done everything reasonably possible to protect my 4Runner from the sun and its nasty radiation. At home my 4Runner finds shelter in my garage, but the days I have to drive it to work it has to fend for itself. So I do my best to minimize the damage by keeping it waxed, using a windshield sun shade and occasionally applying protectant to the dash and interior surfaces exposed to sunlight.
I don't know which of these measures has kept my dash from cracking but it appears I'm one of the few who have not been plagued by this problem.

I have been working out of my house since I bought my '03 in Nov. of '02. It spends most of the time in my enclosed garage and it is pampered as well. Not sure why some do it and some don't.
I guess it is time for me to move on from this thread. I had been having air conditioning issues and came to find out that the evaporator had gone bad. They were basically going to be removing the entire dash to replace it so I figured it would be a good time as any to just suck it up and buy the new dash. This way they could kill two birds with one stone. I really didn't want to spend the money on it but it bothers me every time I get in the truck. I will just have to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a little while.

Add another issue to the cracked list
no other part of this dashboard has developed a crack other than at the dashboard release point for the airbag... and it's growing there goes my resale value

I have a 2004 Sport Edition that I've parked in a garage both at home and at work. I've owned it the whole time, never used any products on the dash. All of a sudden last year one crack showed up, followed shortly by several others. My car is in otherwise great shape. I live in San Diego, so the weather is never really too hot or too cold. This looks like a defect in the dash materials Toyota used. It really is a shame because other than the cracks I can't really complain about my 4Runner.
I'd like to see if Toyota owns up to this flaw since most of us go back and buy 4Runners later. This is my third one.
