Dashboard crack

I have a 2004 Sport Edition that I've parked in a garage both at home and at work. I've owned it the whole time, never used any products on the dash. All of a sudden last year one crack showed up, followed shortly by several others. My car is in otherwise great shape. I live in San Diego, so the weather is never really too hot or too cold. This looks like a defect in the dash materials Toyota used. It really is a shame because other than the cracks I can't really complain about my 4Runner.

I'd like to see if Toyota owns up to this flaw since most of us go back and buy 4Runners later. This is my third one.

Cracked Dash

Toyota replaced the dash on my wifes 2006 Solara SLE convertible, two years ago. It was 6 years old, no warranty. We paid half of the cost, Toyota picked up the rest, material and labor. I ordered and bought the car new. On my fourth 4Runner, never a problem, my 2014 looks like CF.

pics when installed....im thinking of doing the same thing to mine....im worried about the airbag cover...i don't have airbags anymore and wish i could get one without the hole but i doubt they will do that for me

03 SR5 4WD bought new in Aug 2003 - 95K miles. Noticed a crack above the radio this morning. After further inspection, I have several cracks on the drivers side and around the instrument cluster. My car has UV blocking window tint and I usually put a custom sunshade in the windshield. I take meticulous care of my vehicles and have never used anything on my dashboard containing silicone or petroleum products. My wife's 2000 Honda Accord dashboard looks perfect at 170K. This really pisses me off.

Guess I will call customer service tomorrow and get a case number. Not sure what good it will do other than increase the number of complaints.

My 04's is so cracked if I took pictures of it; I would run out of space on my phone or possible burn out the camera. I even use 3m and a window shade.

Dashboard Action Request

My 2003 has the same thing, I bought 18months ago with just a small crack above instrument panel and now it is everywhere. It looks like I locked an alley cat inside overnight and it sharpened its claws on my dash. My brother-in-law has a same production year Lexus SUV and he is having the same problem. has anyone considered combining efforts with Lexus owners?

I will have to file claim myself.

I have multiple cracks that popped up on my 03 at the beginning of this year. It was crazy....I got in the truck one day there they were! It's garaged kept with 200k on the odometer.

Cracking Dash

Just wanting to post that my 2003 4Runner dash has begun to crack as well. Contacted Toyota and reported it. They told me to take my 4Runner to the dealer to verify the crack. They also told me, as they've told many of you, Toyota is not currently doing anything about it because they have not received enough complaints about the issue. My 4Runner has about 145,700miles on it and has been out in the sun a lot, but according to what I've read here sun has nothing to do with it.

Luckily my wife has a company car, so we didn't have to pay for it or the maintenence on it. Mine has been paid for since '06 and had very little issues so we could semi-justify it. I have been so much happier driving it since replacing it. If it had not been for the evaporator issue i would have gone with the Coverlay.

I know what you mean about kids. My twins just turned 7 today. My truck was neglected for the first few years of their life. It gets better

New owner of a 2004 4Runner. Needed a good work vehicle & this is perfect. I'm afraid my wife is going to take my 4Runner & give me her Tahoe. I have the same cracked dash issue as others posting here so I contacted Toyota and basically got a "too bad, so sorry" response. Anyway, mine is logged in with Toyota.

Wow, I was not aware this issue was so serious. I have an 04 with 138k on it and have no cracks as of yet. I think the moment I start to see one I will be trading it in (if it happens before the 200k). It reminds of the clear coat paint problem 7th gen Accords had, if you notice, a lot of 2003-2005 Accords have white/faded roofs, I used to have one and was very pissed about that.

Has anyone tried to fill the cracks with resin and plasti dip the dash? I was thinking about doing this to mine.

Mines cracked as well..... time to throw a ***** fit to Toyota. I've dealt with this kinda mess before with my previous Nissan 370z and the steering lock junk. It can be a lengthy ordeal but can pay off in the long run... shortly after me and hundreds of other 370 owners started raising hell, Nissan issued a recall and back pay to anyone who had previously had the issue fixed. So there is hope possibly.

I bought 04 used from Daytona Beach Florida... The dashboard was cracked when I bought it. It has not gotten any worse but I have cracks running from side to side... It looks bad but I don't notice it anymore.

It would be nice if Toyota replaced the dashes but I don't think a 10 yr old vehicle is covered for any such repairs!

Anyone here dissatisfied with their coverlay cover? From the pics, it looks almost too good to be true. My 2004 is cracking and peeling so bad, I have several square inches where the dark grey plastic has come off and its leaving a yellow foam underneath.

Do you think these would be pretty unnoticeable to most people if they weren't looking? I guess the only covers I've seen are the horribly ugly carpet ones, so was just looking for some further confirmation (probably unnecessary) that this is the way to go.
