***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

04 Sport Edition

Yep. Same problem here. My dash looks like a rhinos a$$, lol. I am actually in Mississippi where there is nothing but humidity and heat.

Tried my dealer on Sat and Sun and was promised a callback which never came. Called again today and was told to call 800-331-4331 to get details about the warranty enhancement program.

Toyota Customer service said there is a concern with the heat and humidity. They are still in the process of determining the exact remedy and said it should be ready by spring 2015. He did confirm that I was in the group that would be getting the letter. He did also say that it would be up to the dealer to determine if the damage was cause by heat or humidity. also mentioned that if a repair was already done, you may be able to put in for a reimbursement based on this program. I guess we'll have to hang on a bit more, but its pretty nice that something may be coming.

Large NW FL dealer knows nothing about it. Mine is '03 - another '04 Runner in condo parking lot has same issue. Hope it's a totally FREE replacement and not just a cost split. I'd take a FREE new dash and install it myself. First thing folks notice when entering my well kept SE! The dash, corroding SE rims, and rusted/seized brake calipers are not expected Yota quality (for a paved road only driven vehicle). Fingers crossed they make it right soon.

I received the following reply from Toyota:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize for the cracked dashboard concerns you encountered with your 2005 4Runner, and appreciate the opportunity to review your involvement in any recalls.

We have checked your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) JTEBT14R1500XXXXX, and determined that your 2005 4Runner is involved in the following Customer Support Program (CSP):

ZE6
Extension of warranty coverage for cracked and/or sticky/melting dashboard

We are currently in phase one of the program, which is the reimbursement of the repairs that customers have paid.

Secondly, phase two which is scheduled in May 2015 will be the part replacement. You will be notified via U.S. mail when the remedy is available.

Happy Holidays

I just called as well and Toyota verified the above information. May 2015 unless you have already had it done.

I'm the 2nd owner in Texas and the truck came from North Carolina. They verified my VIN is covered under the program so it appears to stay in effect if you purchased the vehicle used.

That leads one to wonder what would happen if you just went ahead and did it now if you could get reimbursed. Probably best not to push your luck on that one and just wait.

Still great news as I was contemplating having to pay up for this one!

This is absolutely awesome news. Has anyone seen what the parameters of the program are? For example, what years are included, and are all vehicles within those years covered?

If you previously had the dash replaced at a Toyota dealership due to this reason, you should be reimbursed by Toyota. Contact their customer care line.

Contact your dealership to have your dash inspected. The service department will have the information needed to determine if yours is covered.

Wow, wow, wow- this is fantastic! Not going emo here, but I've been a member of the forum for a good several years already and have never seen this kind of teamwork and comradere as this. To see everyone not only contribute to the forum, but to also see so many have taken action! I guess I will be the 3rd one in Texas, because rest assured I will be calling VERY soon; today perhaps?!?!

I'm proud of you guys (and gals)......-da**it, I said I wasn't gonna cry!! Hahaha- in all seriousness, folks, job well done. Merry Christmas to all, and cheers to 2015!

Great news!

Wow,
Great job momo.75
Just to think this thread was actually started in 2012 and now has made a significant impact in an issue that has affected thousands of T4R owners. I can't wait to get my case number logged. Hopefully they're open on Christmas Eve! My dash has two cracks and also consequently some nasty scratches from the previous owner. I'd love to get a whole new dash!

Well Guys/Gals, I happen to check in on this to see if any progress was being made. After years of waiting to see what was going to happen, I was just about to give up and get a dash cover. My dash has more crack than Kim K's butt; therefore I was shockingly optimistic when I read that people were indicating a campaign was started just before Christmas. I just called Toyota and gave them my reference number for my case. As mentioned previously, they are starting a campaign to reimburse/replace dash. As specified, we are in phase 1. Phase 2, I was told, will be made May 2015. I should be getting something in the mail in May! I can't believe this is actually happening! momo.75, and other countless users, deserve all the credit! Countless members said "they wouldn't do anything, aren't going to do anything", but because of you, because you believed, Toyota is finally listening!!! Also, shout out to 04Limited for that crazy dash install. I hope you and others are signed up to get your money back. For all others, you need to call and get a case number so that you can get your mailer in May. Ok, Enough with the Emo stuff. Here's to another 100K! Cheers! :clap2:

Have any of you thought about getting the dash replaced now and trying to get it paid for? Kinda sucks waiting until May, but I'm not arguing. More than I was expecting.

I went ahead and paid for mine to be replaced this past summer. They were going to be pulling the entire dash out already to replace the evaporator so i bit the bullet to have it replaced. The truck has been paid for since '04 and has had very little trouble. And since my wife has always had company cars we figured it would be a good investment. i will be anxious to see how Toyota treats this situation.

spo0587, HUGE thanks for your post with a mention of me. i just called that 800-331-4331 number. They took my name, found me in their database, confirmed my vehicle is included in the campaign and said i'm GETTING PAID BACK!!!!! Big thanks to all of you for fighting the good fight. This was David vs Goliath and Toyota stepped up to do the right thing. I need to send in the fillowing:

1 - "Repair Order" - translated, I need to type what i did. I'll just type "replaced dash" and include all the pix from my job. The woman said that would be sufficient. Honestly, I may send them a web link to my post from awhile back.
2 - Proof of Payment - I still have the receipt in my glove box for the part
3 - Proof of Ownership - copy of my registration/title

Fax to 310-381-7756 or Mail to:

Guys, SERIOUSLY - thanks again to all. Love that 4Runner. I've replaced XREAS shocks, timing belt, and I'm doing the radiator this weekend. She's gotta last a few more years! Will use the reimbursement for new leather seats from leatherseats.com. Happy New Year!!!!

I just called the number from my very first post and gave them my case number. They put me on hold then came back to tell me that i qualified for the replacement. I told them that i had it replaced and they told me all that i would need to provide for reimbursement. I am so thankful that so many of you took the time to call and open case numbers. It was a team effort for sure!

momo - you are a champion. thank you. if you are ever in north carolina, give me a shout. i'll buy you a beer or 10.

Just got off the phone with Toyota, they're calling it the ZE6 Customer Support Program and told me to call or go to my nearest dealer and mention that program. They also confirmed that my VIN was covered.

Called my local dealership and they were leery at first but he looked up ZE6 and I could hear him mumbling the details. They're definitely going to cover it but want me to bring it in and let them have 1-2 hours with the 4R to see what kind of time estimate they can give since they've never done this before.

Just posting this so I can access it quickly, my case number is 1501072341.

edit- I also heard in his mumbling that there is no mileage limitation, but he did ask how long I'd owned the 4r so there may be an ownership duration requirement.
