***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

2004 Toyota 4runner dashboard cracking

Hello Fellow 4Runner owners. I have many cracks on my 2004 4Runner dash and have not been happy. Today I received a letter from Toyota saying they will re-imburse anyone who has already made repairs to cracked dashboards on 2003-2005 4Runners. But they must have been made at a Dealer. Secondly, they state that they will be replacing all cracked dashboards in the future, but it may take several months for them to prepare all of the parts needed for this "Warranty Enhancement". Once the needed parts are received by Toyota, a letter will be sent to all registered owners. Note: There are several other Models and Years that are affected by this "Warranty Enhancement".

I have an '04 4Runner with a severely cracked dash. I called the 1800 number and was told my VIN wasn't included in the Customer Support Program (CSP): ZE6.

Keep tryin', folks.

I called yesterday. I am not sure I picked the correct number extension. I believe it was for recalls. I gave my VIN and she said I was only eligible for BST and floor pedal recalls (I haven't done either). I told her it wasn't a recall and mentioned ZE6. She put me on hold and talked to someone in another department (can't remember what she called it), then put me on the phone with that person who told me I was eligible, verified my address info, and told me I should receive the "second" notice in May (first notice may still be coming too). She also gave me a case number.

I called my local dealer service department just to cover all the bases. Told her about the program, she was able to bring it up and read it. She told me to wait until I get the notice in May.

I just got off the phone with them and got my case number. I am the 4th owner, it has 170,000 miles on it and I've only had it for about 4 months. They didn't give me any hassle. I am stoked. I actually thought we would never see Toyota stepping up to correct this issue. Thanks to everyone on T4R that helped to make this happen.

I just sent in all the required paperwork for my reimbursement. I guess because of the tears i never really looked at the bill this past summer when i had the evaporator and dash replaced. Parts and labor for the dash was around $1600.....that will be a nice little check to receive.

Another new dash to be installed.

Just bought a 2003 4Runner last week with a cracked dash. Living in Florida I assume does not help with these Dash problems.

I had a Lexus RX330 the dash cracked also if anyone has a number for them. Gave car to mother in law and of course that is one thing she mentions.

Found this website looking around for just common information about 4 Runner's. Called the number and got a case number for parts in May. New Dash before summer.

They also had my vehicle down for another recall for software upgrade that is free. The engine might cut off if you press brake and gas pedal at same time. Thought I would mention if others needed this too. First I heard of that.

Thanks for this site, get a new dash now. Can save the money for tires. :surfer:

I emailed [email protected] and was informed that now my vehicle is included in the ZE6. Great job, everyone, all the cases are making a difference.

Here's the pertinent info from their email to me:
"All our campaigns are based on your vehicle identification number (VIN). Your vehicle happens to be involved in the Warranty Enhancement Program for Cracked and/or Sticky/Melting Dashboards (ZE6).

This Warranty Enhancement Program will be launched in two phases due to current parts production capacity. Initially, Toyota will inform owners that they may seek reimbursement consideration for previous repairs for this condition. Once sufficient parts are available, Toyota will send a second owner notification letter informing owners that replacement will be made if they have a cracked and/or sticky/melting Dashboard as a result of heat or humidity.

The Primary Coverage offers warranty enhancement described herein for all owners of covered vehicles until May 31, 2017, regardless of mileage or date of first use of the vehicle.

Secondary Coverage supplements the Primary Coverage for some owners by offering the warranty enhancement described herein for 10 years from the date of the first use of the vehicle, regardless of mileage. For instance, if you own a 2009 Camry that was first used on January 1, 2010, you are entitled to the warranty enhancement through January 1, 2020.

When you receive the second notification, please contact your local Toyota dealer for the necessary repairs."

I took my case number and went to the dealer today. The service dept wasn't aware of the Warranty Enhancement so I gave him the information I had. He looked it up and said that I didn't have to come in. He said the way it works is that if you want your dash fixed now, you can pay to have it done and will be reimbursed. If you want it replaced for free, you will have to wait until some time in May. He said I should be getting a letter as the time gets closer. He verified that my VIN was in the range.

I just called the 800 number and my 2004 qualifies, got a case #. I think I'm going to wait until May and get it done for free. I can't believe this, Toyota is really taking care of their customers on this one. He said there is no mileage limit either, incredible!

Ahhhh! I've been excited all weekend about calling in to toyota today... But they're closed for MLK holiday.
Is there any way that I can check online and see if my vehicle qualifies?

Been meaning to call for over a year now... finally did today. My '05 does qualify for the dash replacement & I received my case # as well. Sweet!

I qualify

I just called the 800 number and my 2003 qualify! I think I'm going to wait until May and get it done for free.

Called today and they are fixing the dash on my 04!!! I couldn't be happier! The cracks in my dash are unbelievable.
The toyota rep didn't say anything about me needing to have it inspected by a dealership. Also didn't ask how long I've had it...

Called the 800 number and got the case # as well as updated my address so I receive the letter.

Momo.75 Thank you!!!

Just got my letter from Toyota, without lifting the phone - WOW!
There is a crack just developing just above the glove box cover. I'll wait until May to get it fix.

On the list with a case number. Cudos to all who've been diligent in getting this issue corrected. :clap2:

Hurry up, May.
