***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

momo.75 for Prez 2016 :usa2:

lol.....no! I like a simple life too much. Anyway, it was all the members that helped get this rolling. I know it wasn't solely because of us but like to think all our calls had to help.

Aww. Mr. Modest over here lol j/k... I totally understand and am glad that Toyota is watching/reading/listening and paying attention to what the consumer is asking, while appreciating the reliability/longevity of their product.

Good for them for stepping up to the plate.

As several of you have posted, there is an issue with some of the dashboards in the 4th gen. Since i work from home my truck is parked in the garage 90% of the time and is very well taken care of. I never use any Armorall or any other chemicals on the dash. About 3 or 4 years ago it developed a 6" crack on the dash above the glove box. I paid an interior guy around $150 to fix it, thinking it was a random thing. Over the last 6 months i have cracks going all over my dash. Since mine is an '03, it is way out of warranty, but this is still unacceptable. Obviously this is a default in the dash material.

I just called the Customer Relations number and opened a Claim. After going through the whole deal, the guy said there wasn't any information from Toyota on this issue, so they couldn't do anything. He did say that if there was more claims towards this issue Toyota would be taking note and would probably do something. At this point all we can do is try with a joint effort.

If you have any issues with your dashboard cracking, without any previous damage, and would like to try to get it fixed call this number.

Thanks.

I just registered to say THANK YOU!!! for leading the charge on this. My wife's '04 (Black, Sport) 4Runner has been outstanding with the exception of the spiderwebbed dash. Just called and filed a claim and we are going to be covered for full replacement at no-cost. Really really exceptional of Toyota to take care of their customers like this. This is a great day!

Thank you for taking the time to write. I know there was a lot more to it than this thread but i know that all the T4R members that called had to help in some way. We have a good team here on this forum.

I haven't been on this site in a long time and saw the first sticky post. Sure enough, I've had a cracked dash for over 2 years. Just hung up with Toyota and I'm all registered for the replacement. AWESOME! Thanks so much for organizing this.

Just FYI regarding the dash crack issue. Received from Toyota...

I just received mail from Toyota advising of extended warranty for Toyota owners for the dash cracking issue. It will also reimburse any previous repairs. The recall covers the following:
2003-2005 4runner
2005-2010 Avalon
2007-2011 Camry and Camry Hybrid
2004-2010 Sienna
2004-2008 Solara

The extended warranty covers until May 31, 2017 or until 10 years after the vehicle was put into use, for example, if you have an 09 Camry and it was purchased in Jan 2010, then you get coverage until Jan 2020.

For those who have already had to repair this issue, Toyota will reimburse the expense. It requires the following:

1. Repair Order or Invoice, to include the date of the repair, labor charges and diagnonis statement which includes the following 3 items.
1. Why vehicle was brought to repair facility.
2. What was the facility's diagnosis.
3. What was done to correct the issue.

2. Proof of payment, copy of check or credit card statement. If paid by cash, a letter from the repair facility signed by the manager stating the amount paid by cash.

3. Proof of Ownership, Bill of sale or Title

4. Name, Address and phone number printed on all documents.

Toyota is the best I curently own 3 4R two 3rd gen and just picked up my 4th gen I searched high and low for the perfect one and finally settled for one with the cracked dash not thinking they would cover it but just got off the phone and all the paper works in the mail thanks toyota!! Now I just gotta fix that gas door hinge anybody know if that's covered?

I got the extended warranty as well without calling Toyota. What's next? Do we have to go the a dealer to register a cracked dashboard or wait for another notice?

Woohoo! Just got my letter from Toyota today. Can't wait to call tomorrow and schedule the replacement. :whoo::banana::party: :bigok:

From what my letter says, they (Toyota) will notify owners, with another letter, when the parts come in and when they will be available for installation.

Got my letter last week. Called my buddy who is a service advisor at my local toyota dealer to see if I actually qualify, he said, if you got the letter, it qualifies!

He also said dont bother scheduling an appt till around may as the parts are not available yet and wont be for around 8 weeks at least.

Whats nice, is my dash is only cracked cause the previous owners screwed a gps or something to the dash and the cracks started from there. Ill take a new dash for sure!

Thanks Toyota!

Just got off the phone with Toyota. Received a case #, they are going to replace the dash(badly spider webbed) in my 04' Runner!! She said by May I should receive a letter!! Talk about standing behind their product and fantastic customer service. I am thoroughly impressed and pleased.

Another person logging in to say thank you to this forum. I honestly haven't had to use this forum for too much since my 04 has given me so few problems but I'm sure this forum had a large part in getting this taken care of.

I think it shows good will on Toyota's end to acknowledge the problem and take care of it with so little hassle. I received my letter in the mail the other day out of the blue. I've only owned my 04 for a little over a year and the fact that they didn't try to skate out of covering 2nd or 3rd owners impresses me.

Has anyone speculated on if they're going to do a total dash replacement or some type of cap? I'm just curious how long they'll have it in the shop because around May I may be out of the country for a bit.

Agreed, this level of customer service is Superb! According to the rep. I talked to yesterday this is a complete dash board replacement. I can't imagine they would need it any longer than 1-few days at most. Unless the shop is slammed etc...You also have until 2017 to have the dash replaced. :)

I just wanted to say thank you in general to the forum and it's members, I too joined because of the incredibly useful information but this thread was the kicker.

Now if we could just get them to fix the 4wd and center diff lock actuator issues under some kind of extended warranty

im not sure if it has been mentioned here or not(honestly didnt feel like looking back through 30+ pages of this thread) but the Lexus GX has the same issue, and the same thing is going on with Lexus as far as replacement...

here is a link over to the clublexus thread about this;

Warranty Enhancement - Cracked Dash Replacement! - Club Lexus Forums

so its not just a toyota problem(ok i know toyota made the lexus bla bla bla) but they are taking care of it -though it does seem that toyota is better in the customer service dept of things. -the dash in my GX has been cracked and "patched" so far its holding together. if it starts up again i will request a replacement dash.
