***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Has anyone that's had their dash replaced confirmed they're getting the new style dash? Maybe I'm missing something but has anyone gotten the new part # yet?

My guess is nope, they did not get the updated part that is referenced in the ZE6 CSP since so far none of them have been shipped/received yet. Which was something I brought up a while back when people we supposedly getting it done under the CSP before it was even released.

Is my dash new?

This all happened so fast, I didn't feel like I had an option not to take the dash they ordered. I had thought about insisting on the new dash only - anyone else doing that?

Some observations:
1. This dash is lighter in color. Wasn't that noticeable at first, though.
2. Despite my excitement in the previous post, the mechanic did an awful job putting this thing in! I had to take apart the HVAC panel and do it right.
3. When I first called Toyota the rep said the dashes were going to be available in May, but then things got pushed back, and they didn't know when they would be in.

I'm assuming he meant the "new" dashes. But it's got me wondering, did I get an "old" dash? They seriously have a stockpile of these somewhere? Why would they go to the trouble to replace my dash with another faulty dash?

I'll have to look for my receipt and see if there is a part number on it . . .

The guys that are getting there dash replaced at this time under the new warranty are more than likely getting old dashboards that have been sitting around in a parts dept somewhere. I would be more patient and wait till japan releases the new dashboards regardless of what your service dept is telling you. This forum and the letters are way more informed/ informative about this deal than most service depts.

Dash is on the way...

Got a call from the dealership today. The dash should be here in a week. But now you guys are making me nervous... Should I cancel the order and try again in a few months when I move when the 'new' dashes are in? Are we sure these are 'old' dashes?

I guess even a new 'old' dash will solve the cracks problem. At least temporarily...

That's the $64,000 question . . . if I had it to do over again, I would have waited.

My dash was pretty bad though in some spots - part of it peeled off on the top drivers side.

It will be worth the wait if you do get one of the new, non-cracking dashes. On the other hand though, if you get one of the old ones, by the time it cracks, it will be someone else's problem.

I'm waiting for my 2nd letter and until BlackWorksInc can confirm new part # stop ship has lifted ; )

I just purchased an 05 with the Dash problem, can i take it in to get a replacement dash without a letter ?

Or , does Toyota notify new registered owners ?

Thanks,

All you really need to do is:

A 5 minute phone call to Toyota - see the first post I believe for the phone number.

Then take it to a Toyota dealer you like and have them look at it. They may take pictures and call Toyota to get the go ahead.

But as others have said, it might be smart to wait for the "new" dashes to come in from Japan.

Thanks for the Reply, I must have missed this in the thread!

yeah i would be pissed if the color didn't match, but i got my new dash/old stock who knows in june and it's a perfect match to the original

After months of jumping through hoops i received my reimbursement check from Toyota for the amount covering the dash and the labor for installing it......:whoo:

I just got my 2nd notice today in the mail, and it states the coverage as we all know till May 31, 2017. I will not be replacing my dash till May 1, 2017. I want new parts and techs that know what they are doing before I have them tear into my baby. My dash isn't bad compared to some that I have seen, but if you ain't selling your truck why not have them practice on everybody else's.

New dash...

I bought my 4runner last fall/winter and placed myself on the local dealerships waiting list for a new dash. After not hearing anything from them for 2 months, and never receiving a letter, I called them and they told me to come on in for an inspection and that they would order a dash right away...odd, but OK.

The inspection was the tech taking 2 pictures of my dash and one of my VIN, ordering my part, and saying that they would have the part in within 5-10 business days. 2 business days later, they called.

Installation Monday...I'll let you guys know how it goes.

You got a new dash, the warranty enhancement can only use the new part pertaining to it.

Had our first 4runner dash show up this week. New part is still being made in Japan, very obvious by the packaging.

Single pic I snagged while throwing it in.
