***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I dropped my 2004 off at the dealer this morning. Dash on order for 1.5 months. Dealer called last week told me it was in and set appointment for today. Get a call 20 minutes ago saying sorry dash isn't in and its back ordered. WTF. Thanks for wasting a day Toyota. Only a couple hundred dollars I lost at work. Miscommunication at its finest.

That exactly what happened to me., I wondered if they missed the fact it was a limited, and didn't have a dash with the center speaker cutout in it.... I'm speculating on that though.

dash

i got a new dash. and noticed a horseshoe mark on top above the speedo. complained and they ordered a new dash and it came the same way. i was told thats how they come. has anyone else noticed this. they gave me the 1 800 number to call ,for complaint. havent done it yet. just wanting to here some feeedback first. thanks danny

It appears there are still lots of time issues with this dash problem. I am still waiting on mine as well. I have to call the Toyota dealership once a month (for 4 months now) and ask them if the dash has arrived. They tell me it is still on order. So, I patiently wait.... and wait.

It makes me wonder what the reason is for the delay.

Hip Hip Hooray! My dash finally came in! Been waiting since the last week in August when the order was placed, my dash has the JBL center speaker and I went into the dealership to confirm it still had the center speaker since all the ones I've seen replaced are ones without the JBL package. The hole for the speaker is there! Appointment Tuesday to get it put on will upload pics after

1st post. Thanks to this site my newly acquired 05 is going to get a new dash at some point in the semi near future!

Thanks to everyone.

Good news for me. I too have the speaker and keep getting told it's still on order. It's been well over 4 months. Maybe getting closer to 6 months?

Well that was fast. Less than a month and I just got a call saying the dash is in. Dropping it off tomorrow. Was hoping that I could get a 5th gen to have for the day but that is a no go. lol

I'm in Houston, TX. Local Toyota dealer ordered the dashboard since last Summer. Still waiting for it to arrive. :sing:

They're trickling in. Be patient and don't hassle your service advisors. I get berated weekly by some jackass that thinks they're special and should get theirs done before anyone else.

RX dashes are made of unicorn tears and we have 300 on backorder at my store. GX and ES are fairly easy to come by IS not so much. Most folk don't understand how difficult it is to tool up for parts that have been out of production for 10 years while filling current orders and service parts.

"Sir, even if you came down and wanted to pay me the $3,000 out of your own pocket, I couldn't get the part any faster."

This is true, but Toyota/Lexus has been getting in a bad/lazy habit of not having enough parts ready when they launch a CSP, Recall, and/or Campaign. It's getting a bit ridiculous that they had this CSP released in Spring of '15 and they just barely stopped sending damaged/defective Camry/4Runner dashes, let alone started getting them out in reasonable time. We won't even go into the ZE7 CSp and how well THAT is going for sourcing parts and so on...

Yeah, it's been almost a year since I received my letter from Toyota for my dash. I'm glad they're doing it but it is taking forever.

It's always the people that only do oil changes or never come into the dealer that jump up and down for free shit.

Come buy a 120k with alignment, balance and detail, and give me a perfect 10 survey and say nice things. Then talk to me about doing favors for you. I pocket $3 before taxes off an oil change and they want to keep a loaner Friday till monday? I don't think so sparky, no special treatment for you.

For sure; I am not advocating that behavior. I do think he has the right to be frustrated with how slow corporate has been or appears to be, but calling you every week demanding to be first is ridiculous.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate that it was anyone participating in this thread. I hope no one took it that way, I was just venting my frustrations of someone who has to deal with this particular situation multiple times on a daily basis.

I actually wrote up 3 IS250/350 dash replacements today. I'm sure the guys that work at Toyota have it a little better, they usually get paid off in the entire value of the ticket based on a percentage. At my particular store we're only paid off labor hours and CSI, therefore the value of the dash has no bearing to me just the labor that it takes to install. So for example a GX 470 pays two and a half hours while an IS250 only pays two. The customers are getting so upset that it's taking so long to get parts in stock they're turning in less than perfect scores on the CSI surveys,

Or its a high mileage customer that does not typically service with the dealer. And when they're told their car needs $3,000 worth of repairs because Johnny Jiffy Lube has never tried to sell it to them they get pissed off and give us bad survey scores. These dash warranty extensions (IT'S NOT A GD RECALL) are really a double edged sword, I've made a few regular customers from it. It's a great opportunity to wow the guest and make new business but we also get some loan car abusers and people that refuse to fix brakes and drive on corded tires.

I digress...

Yeah, I know what you mean. When you get a vehicle that's basically falling apart and they just want their free stuff it's ridiculous. Like the dash is going to fix the fact the engine is on it's last legs or the interior looks and smells like shit?

Not to mention people assume it's a recall when it's a CSP (Customer Support Program) which basically means that Toyota decided they'd be nice and warranty something that the federal government can't force them to warranty (otherwise it'd be a recall.)

"Recall" is a safety item that needs addressing (voluntary or not), we also have "product updates" and "service campaigns".

High mileage RX, LS, and IS250'S are now hitting the tote-the-note lots with their 2nd and 3rd owners. It's a real pleasure to stand there in a suit and tie and be berated by somebody in sweatpants with a sense of entitlement.

;)

You're right about a Recall being a safety item, I was being a bit cynical in the sense that a Recall means the NHTSA and EPA are aware of an issue which means they will be forced to take action. Otherwise they can just deny it's an issue and not do anything about it until they're caught (seems to be a common theme in today's industry).

I just bought a 2004 V8 Limited this weekend that has a cracked dash. I checked the toyotaowners site and it doesn't list anything about the extra warranty, only a thing about messing with the throttle and brakes at the same time which doesn't seem like something I want done. Should this show up there? I'm going to stop by the dealer in the next few days anyhow, was just checking if anyone sees this on the toyota owners site.
