***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I'm looking at a 2004 that is for sale over 3 hours away. If I purchase it do you think Toyota will transfer the warranty claim to my local dealership? Toyota website has a service record from 2/2016 for the inspection and parts ordered but it was never completed. The seller is a chevy dealer, and he isn't sure but suggested carparts.com $160 and said it's easy to install. I looked it up and it does indeed say easy to install. Not necessarily a deal breaker. Just curious.

It's possible that your local dealership may transfer the claim, but if not, talking to the dealership that placed the order, updating owner information so they will call you when the dash arrives. That way you'll not loose your place in line may also be an option. Driving 3 hours to have a new dash installed for free would be worth the effort in my opinion!

well after waiting 9 months. I finally got the call from Toyota that my dash is in and the truck is going in Tuesday to get replaced!

I got my Dash replaced Thursday on my 2004. I have dirt,dust on the inside of glass(plastic) on my gauges. Is this sealed and I never noticed before or could this happen from the work?

That's unreal ! On Feb 3 it will be one year since my dash was ordered here in Wilmington, NC. Multiple calls to the dealer always yield the same answer " it's on order, we don't know when it will get here and the 4Runner and Sienna dashboards are taking longer"...but it's been a full year ! My MAJOR problem is that I have refrigerant leak in my evaporator, losing the charge in less than a week...and it is behind the dashboard. My plan was to have it done when the dash comes out under warranty to avoid a very big labor bill. But if the dash doesn't show in the next 2 months I'll have to pay the full cost to get the A/C fixed, and the bad dash removed only to be put back in again ! I can't go without A/C here in the south, especially not with the wife riding with me. Then what happens if the dealer calls the next week and says my dashboard is in ? I will have paid big bucks for nothing, but the dealer will be smiling from ear to ear...I emailed Toyota corporate and explained my problem but it's been 4 days and nothing but an automated response yet. I'm not big on letting just any shop tear the dash down to get at the evaporator, alot can go wrong if it doesn't go back together right. To get a dash in a single day, would never be my luck !

I was hoping to do the same, but several other members, including myself, got price estimates with replacing the evap coil with and without the dash replacement warranty, and the cost different was minimal. I was surprised as I thought having them doing the labor on the dash removal on their dime would be a significant help, but it wasn't. Might be worth checking.

I had to go back to my earlier post, but i did find it. $1350 for the evap replacement at the same time as the dash versus 1600 done separately. Added up to 2 hours labor extra.

Not that 250 isn't a lot of money, i was just hoping the difference would be much greater

I bet they have a set amount from that computer estimator thing and just price it off that and then take a couple bills off to make it seem like a deal. Maybe one of the Toyota guys can tells us.

Well, after 14 months Toyota finally got the dashboard replaced! Now I can fix some other things that I felt bad doing with it having that mess of a dashboard.

Any recommendations for replacing the leather seats?

So yesterday I finally got mine replaced - after nearly 12 months of waiting!

I asked why the evaporator change is so much more expensive and they said it'd only come as a whole assembly in some kind of box. So, maybe it only add the 2 h of extra labor, but if the part is that expensive.... Not sure if that's true though as aftermarket evaporators do not have a lot of stuff that comes with them.

So after 18 months of waiting I finally had the dash replaced yesterday. I have had AC problems as well and wanted to wait for them to replace the dash to go ahead and replace the entire AC including the compressor that went out. Came out to $1575 including taxes. $900 was labor, I would guess $300 of that was the compressor, but at least we have working AC now.

Is Toyota actually covering the cost of the dashboard replacements? I was a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician for nearly 18 years, ending about 3 years ago, and I never once replaced, or saw a cracked dashboard on these. I just bought a 2003 V8 Sport, but haven't noticed any cracks. It's been cold here and have been waiting for the warmer weather to tear this thing apart and give it a deep cleaning, and inspection/interior mods. I hope my dash doesn't or isn't cracked anywhere, but if Toyota is footing the bill, I still have some connections to maybe make it easier for me to get it replaced. And I don't mean the labor. I used to love pulling dashboards. LOL.
