***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Is Toyota actually covering the cost of the dashboard replacements? I was a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician for nearly 18 years, ending about 3 years ago, and I never once replaced, or saw a cracked dashboard on these. I just bought a 2003 V8 Sport, but haven't noticed any cracks. It's been cold here and have been waiting for the warmer weather to tear this thing apart and give it a deep cleaning, and inspection/interior mods. I hope my dash doesn't or isn't cracked anywhere, but if Toyota is footing the bill, I still have some connections to maybe make it easier for me to get it replaced. And I don't mean the labor. I used to love pulling dashboards. LOL.

It's a full-on recall (edit: "warranty enhancement". Thanks AuSeeker) from Toyota, and they are covering 100% of the costs. I walked out from the dealership only paying about $60 because I had them change the oil, rotate tires, etc while it was there.

Wow. That's crazy. I had never dealt with one of these my entire career. I'm going to try to get mine covered too, but I don't think mine has any cracks. So, I might have to pull some strings. I'm assuming that you have to call and start a claim, and then at that point they contact you when it's approved? A recall would mean you can just show up at the dealership and they would just take care of it. I just ran my VIN and it doesn't show an open "recall" for this. Sounds like it's more of a customer satisfaction type of campaign. Thanks for the info.

It's not a recall per se, Toyota is calling it a "Warranty Enhancment Program", here's a link to the info on the program from Toyota,

Toyota Dash Problem Melting Cracking Warranty Extension LSC ZE6 | TOYO Headquarters

Just an FYI, in the begining of this program they sent owners a first letter and then a second letter informing you to bring the T4R to a local dealer for an insepection, now many owners never got any of the letters but are still covered, in this case you will have to take your T4R into a dealer, they will run the Vin and do a visual inspection and then if you're covered they will order a dash for your T4R and give you a "tentative" appointment date, which will in most all cases come and go before they get the dash in, there's a BIG backorder on these dashboards becasue of this warranty program, once the dash comes in they will contact you to make an appointment to do the R&R of the dash, most have had to wait a year or more, with a few lucky ones getting their dash a little sooner.

When I took mine in the Service guy said OK you're all set, we'll call you when the dash comes in, I ask for paperwork and he said there wasn't any, but after watching him type away on his computer for around 7 to 8 minutes there had to be something he could give me so I told him to print out what he had on his screen after all that typing and I wasn't leaving until he give me something in writing, so he printed out paperwork showing I had an appointment for dash replacement in 6 months, but he did tell me it would most likely be at least a year before the dash came in.

I called Toyota in June of 2015 to get an app with my local dealership. January of 2016 I got a call to come in for an inspection. After my app. I was told it could be at least a year. Finally dropped it off yesterday and picked it up today with a new dash.

According to the Service Manager. They're sending teams of mechanics to work on dash boards after business hours. They did mine and a buddy's over night.

I called yesterday and asked if my 4runner would be covered. They said to bring it up, and had an appointment open within 1.5 hours of my call. I brought it up there on my lunch break, was out of my car about 1-2 minutes, didn't even make it to the waiting area, and I had my name booked for them to call me for an appointment to install. I didn't hear how long it was going to be, but the process so far has been amazing. Thanks Toyota!

Finally got a call Weds that replacement dash is in after over a year wait!

Picking it up after work!!!:thumb:

Got the call last wed for my dash appointment. 15 month wait but can't complain for the final instal and dash...FREE and looks great. What y'all clean the dash with?

Got a call today from the dealer, they got my dash in!!

This really surprised me because it's been less than 3 months!!

I feel really great for myself but really bad for those that have been waiting longer!

Went to check the status of my dash today at the dealership. A lady in the back overheard my converstaion with the parts guy and said she was just about to call me. Perfect timing!

Getting it installed on Friday.

Niiice! just got my installed in my 04. I had NO idea this was a recall issue until I went into the stealership one day to have my 4WD inspected and the Service Mgr pointed it out. happy days !

I did a quick search but I don't think anybody else has asked yet:

What is the least amount of damage that has allowed a dash replacement?

My appointment is next Tuesday, and I'm hoping mine gets in. It's not cracked anywhere I can see, but it feels tacky in some areas, sort of like a used post-it note. I'm thinking this is the early stages of the sticky-dash syndrome.

Think I'll have any luck?

When I got my dash inspected there was maybe two or three cracks (less than 6" long) and mine was approved for a new one. Also the guy stuck his head in the passenger window for maybe 3 seconds and approved it. Thats my experience with it.

Sticky dash quailfies for the replacement, tell them it getting stickier over time!

I had my 2004 done about 6 month ago. Even though it looks great something inside it rattles like crazy. I'm not sure if I want them to be taking it apart again but it is noisy and annoying.

I'm looking at buying an 03 4runner and the dash is cracked in a few spots. So this is covered under a warranty? I just have to contact my local dealer and have them check it out?
