Cracked Headlights Problem

Hi Everyone,

First time poster, love the forum!

I'm wondering if any of you have encountered this problem I have. My headlights are cracked - apparently cause by rocks flung from other cars on the highway. By cracked, there are "bullet" type holes that are on both headlights now. I've done a ghetto fix so far (taped over the holes) but i'm wondering if there is any way to help prevent this thing from continuing to happen once I get the headlights replaced? Maybe a type of headlight cover?

I've looked for headlight protectors before with no success. It actually suprises me that Toyota dont offer them as an accessory, since they do overseas on all their suv's and trucks. They are a clear plastic cover that sits about a 1/4 inch in front of the lens and will take most rock strikes with ease.

Actually, even better than that are a thin film model specific, that sticks to the lens to prevent this. I know performance products carries them

this won't help protect them, but as an FYI, I've had similar problems with cracked headlights. The guy doing my inspection claims they're BB holes, but I can't imagine someone taking target practice at my headlights. Wherever they came from, I was able to repair them with a $5 tube of clear silicone sealant. This fix passed inspection and is obviously much less expensive than replacing the entire headlight assembly.
