Cracking windows for ventilation

Hello everyone,

Full Summer weather here in Michigan, which is nice. I installed in-channel Weathertech "deflectors" which installed pretty good, and work good. They do make some noise going up and down but after I lubed them with silicone spray, they have been a lot better.

I like to leave my front windows semi cracked open (like 3-4" down from the top) when I'm parked so I can get some airflow. I always do this at home and work where I know I'm good security wise. It helps a lot temp wise, especially on a black car. I'm sure many can relate...

Anyways, my question is, The windows don't sound solid when I close the doors with them partially open... I normally try to close the doors with low-medium force, but sometimes they just slam shut. It's not a huge deal I don't think, but I'd figured I'd see if anyone else felt the same way. I researched but didn't find anything. It sounds like the window is moving/vibrating a bit as the door shuts, you know? With the windows all the way closed, the doors sound and feel way more solid.

Thoughts? Not a big deal? I just don't want to keep doing this and have it bite me in the a$$ later on in ownership with issues.

I had the dealer configure the computer to open the windows from the remote. After exiting with the windows closed, I hold the button down to crack the windows a bit then hit the lock button and walk away. Works for me.

Huh... first I heard of that, though I didn't even know you could have the Avalon roll down all the windows and open the sunroof with the keyfob until a customer asked us to do it. Some of our vehicles have so many options in the BCM it's hard to keep up since we rarely get asked to configure them (people don't read their owners manual.)

On a side note, generally cars will sound more "rattly" when the windows are partially down as opposed to all the way up and all the way down. The main reason is that all the way up, it's securely fitted into the window run and weather stripping and doesn't rattle. All the way down, the motor has gone as far as it can and both sides off the window are secured by the window run and pressing against the outer weather strip. When it's partially down the contact to the weather stripping and window run is looser and the regulator has minute play in the joints for articulation.

Probably not, you could take the door panel off and check the tightness on the regulator to window bolts. But honestly it's probably more normal than anything else.

Just did this door panel sound proofing & it def helps make the door solid compared to before just saying !!! Peel & seal lowes 16$ can't beat it .

I've used the WeatherTech window vent visors on at least four of my Toyota trucks, one am '08 T4R Sport. Never had much of a problem - lost a rear one once - but the truck windows eventually "get used" to the tension and they work fine.

The doors sound hollow and the damn windows rattle if they're rolled down a little bit when you shut the door - with or without the vent visors.

Get 'em. Note that WeatherTech told me they wouldn't warrant the one I had lost because I bought the product through another vendor.

You might also want to park your car so the tailgate is south.

The heaviest tint is on the rear window, then less moving forward with the windshield having the least. Parking facing north put the most tint toward the sun.

If Toyota had a user-programmable "all windows 2 inches open" setting, I would use it daily instead of the "oops too much...oops too little...oops too much" dance all summer long.

I find that opening the back window a bit makes a big difference in the summer. The rear overhang protects against the odd rain shower too. I dont feel that leaving it open is much of a security risk - someone would need to smash the window to get in.

I have done the following TIS Techstream Mods on my '15 SR5P:

Disabled:

Seatbelt ding
All doors unlock when put into Park
Lock/Unlock beeps (lights still flash)

Enabled:

Hold down unlock on key fob = all windows + moon roof open
Turning key left/right in driver's door = rolls windows + moon roof up/down
Extended side mirror ground lights time to 30 seconds when pressing unlock

I met up with a local T4R member who owns the software/setup and did all the above for $20.

The dealership can do all of these, though I've been told they will not disable the seatbelt ding for legal purposes.
