Craigslist postings

FoneRunner

I check craigslist several times a day for 4runner stuff, after all that's where I found my 4runner. For months there has been a recurring post for a 2007 Limited with all the bells and whistles for $4990. Its obviously a scam, but it keeps popping up and I noticed the same exact ad is running in lots of different cities so you guys must have seen it. Do people actually fall for that stuff, or is it some kind of joke or what??

We have the same kind of trap-posting here on other sites, ex: 2005 bmw m3 conv. for 12k, etc... But it's easier to detect the spam here, "owner" claims to be in Montreal but the pics used always seems to have been taken in Florida (with palm trees ... that we don't have in Canada...)

If you use often craigslist, I may have something for you... A soft I developped, "CraigsListCrawler" that does a full, multi-threaded, USA search then presents all the results in a date-ordered html page for convenient viewing... (The kind of usefull apps you develop when you have a quiet morning at work... hehe)

I use www.searchallcraigs.com to search craigslist...it searches through the entire USA and you can filter by region or whatever.

But to answer the OP's question, yeah there are TONS of scammers on Craigslist...just make sure you flag it!!

We have that ad here too. Sometimes he posts two or three ads in a day. No phone number. The one I see now is a 2006 white 4Runner that is loaded. I have seen others. They usually have a g-mail account. I wonder what the scam is?

Craigslist says, by seeing the car, that eleminates about 99% of the fraud.

With the scammers here it's pretty simple : They ask for a deposit ! :P I let you guess what happens next.. ehe

Another thing they do is get your email address when you reply for more information. Then they sell it and you get spam for life:flipoff:

i always report his a55 by flagging him.

When I was looking for my 4runner I was flagging him several times a day...he just pops back up, and from the looks of it, he's all over. I guess Craigslist doesn't keep track of multiple offenders!

Not sure if you realize this post is over a year old or not? The link to the 4runner you were questioning does seem odd. Never send money without seeing, driving and checking out the vehicle first. If it is too good to be true it likely is, so look harder for the catch. Good luck on your search.

Also, typically if the WHOLE ad is an uploaded picture as opposed to a written out ad it is fake/spam.

By using a picture, they are able to place multiple posts becuase craigslist doesn't know that it has been posted before.

its happening more and more now that to the point i dont even click on the links. just saw an '01 with 90k miles sport edition with all the option you would want.....for 2900k
