Crankshaft pulley

1st day changing my timing belt. I did remove the crankshaft pulley but a couple pieces of metal broke off from the edges. I did not get a replacement pulley in the first place. From looking at it its not bad and not going to get get in the way drive belts or anything. Can I install it and drive with it until I get a new one? I've heard it should have it's balance and everything. It is pretty rusty and old. It would've been thrown off balance a long time ago with all the chunks of rust that grew on it. So what you guys think? I had planned to finish the work tomorrow but if I get stuck with waiting for the new part I'm pretty screwed without a ride...

It's not a harmonic balancer, just a dampener pulley. So with that being said yes you could, but I would recommend just replacing it.

For some reason I thought it was the harmonic balancer. I guess I'll get it back on the road tomorrow after all! What is the harmonic balancer on our runners anyway?
 
I used one of those adjustable pulley holders. I put a long piece of square tubing on the handle and put it against the frame. It was something... I bent the tool and broke off both pins and then used long bolts instead of pins and finally was able to get it off with a long torque wrench. I hope I can torque it to spec when I put it back tomorrow. This little tool I got sucks, I should've made my own...

You can get new replacement harmonic dampeners off Ebay for $100 or a little more. See if they will ship to Canada.

They are balanced internally from what I understand. I had a talk with gadget at URD and he kinda explained this stuff to me.
 
I didnt think about taking pictures at the time.... Maybe I'll take some tomorrow.

I'm also stuck with removing the AC compressor. Rounded off the farthest bolt and the hardest to get to. Got some special sockets today that suppose to get a grip on those rusty and rounded bolts.
 
Hey bud, if you need a new one I have an oem one for ya. I bought it brand new and I only ran it for 8 months. Pm me if you're interested.
 
And they're not balanced internally. They machine material o UT on the back side of the pulley to balance it out. If you have ever seen more than one, you will notice each one has a different depth hole or number machined into the back.....
