Cream puff, kinda....

I found a 2001 limited silver with tan leather with 185,000 on it for my brother. The good, One owner. All maintenance done from day one on or before scheduled. Have every receipt, Old person owners, always garaged. Hardly a dent, scratch or stain in it. The rockers and wheels wells are almost like new. Same with the hitch and suspension. Really really clean! The bad, the frame is rusted next to the muffler on inside edge along lower control arm mount. The common spot on these. It's all the way through the frame about 8 Inches long and 1/2 inch wide. And the radiator is not long for this world. Gonna order one tonight. He bought it today as he didn't see the rust issue. I couldn't look at it for him. He looked under it but couldn't see this spot because of the 2 feet of snow on the ground. Everywhere else is just light surface rust. Just this one spot has a issue. So now I gotta figure out how I'm gonna properly repair it. Im probably just gonna cut that section out and cut a new piece to fit perfect. I'm good with metal work and welding so no big deal. I guess I'm just sharing this as I was excited I found my brother a 4 runner way nicer that mine. I really can't believe how clean this 4runner is! Hard to find one owners like this that have been over maintained. Just have to over look the little frame repair we need to do. This ones a keeper!

Nice man looks clean. Yeah just cut out the effected area and weild in a new piece of metal. I woukd pressure wash the under side really well, check for any more rust areas that need repair and then spray it with undercoating really well to prevent any future issues. In areas where the roads are salted to prevent ice its a very very idea to pressure was the under side a few ti es a year to wash off all the road salt. This will greatly help to prevent rust.

It's gonna get a good washing with marine clean this weekend. Then hopefully get it on the lift and start working on it. Sucks winter is upon us. The whole underside will get POR15 or Eastwood frame paint for rust. Were gonna take off the running boards also. I hope this really is the only spot that's bad. I'll figure out a way to oil and rust proof the inside of the frame.

I never understood Toyota not taking care of these frames. I worked at a Toyota/GM dealer for 7 years. Saw lots of 3 gens rusted like this. Some got scraped because of it. It's a damn shame Toyota couldn't do a better job at corrosion control. Just cheap quality. Too bad. Cause the rest of the 4runner is like new.
