Cross Country Tip - Ideas? (leaving Early October '09)

I'm leaving from LA to Memphis TN. I will be driving along the 40 most of the way. Some definite detours are LV, Zion, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Dallas, Little Rock.

I am looking for your thoughts on places to stop, see, explore. Light off roading would be cool (I will have a small uhaul trailer with me, so I'll have to detach...etc).

Waterfalls, Swimming, Lakes, Star gazing, Hiking, Ghost Towns, Cool towns, Good food, Bad food, Strip Clubs, stuff mid twenty year old's would like.

Let me know! I leave early october.

I understand the multiple postings rule, but I AM driving through all of those states, and most people won't check the other sub forums. Help a brother out.
