Cruise control is haunted..

Hey guys. Just trying to figure out why i set my cruise control and with the slightest bit of speed decrease my truck will put the pedal to the floor and rev it up to 3 grand just to make up for a 2-3 mph variance from where its actually set to.

It does not feel "healthy" for the truck to be constantly doing this so i need a hand guys. Could this be because the cable is to tight?

Thanks!

Thats how our cruise controls works, you have to get used to it. try to be aware of slight inclines that will cause a decrease in speed and compensate for them before you reach them. I have long called my cruise control the "exact speed nazi"

Haha. Glad im not the only one. Its funny when people new to my truck ride in it on the highway. I set the cruise, kick my seat back and relax. Five minutes into it my 4R is punching the pedal revving that engine up and no sign of stopping. The passengers just reply, "dude, is your truck mashing the pedal by itself?"

I reply, "Its a Toyota thing"

My memory could be off, but i dont remember my toy always acting this way with cruise. However, mine has been doing this since i moved up a few tire sizes, I dont know if thats the situation for you.

A remedy: On most of the interstate I run on(very few large hills in south Louisiana), riding with ECT on keeps my runner from kicking up to 3k rpms most of the time. May be worth a shot if it bothers you.

Ahhh. Maybe thats it. I did go from 225s to 265s. Also, it seems that if i keep the cruise set to 67-70 she will keep herself from going giddy and punching it. I will def try the ECT though. Its not the pedal to the floor that bothers me, its the effects that it can have in the long run. I always felt that punching any vehicle to often was just a poor choice for future problems.

wow. yeah that situation you described is exactly my situation. Went up to 265/70/17s on FJ rims and sure enough if i set the cruise at about 68 i can avoid it most of the time. With ECT i can bump up to ~72 on the speedo(which means im actually going quite a bit faster).
I really didnt like my cruise kicking up to 3k rpm because i have a rusted through hole in my muffler that starts to whistle incredibly loud right at about 3k

My dad used it once when it was still his. It scared the crap out of him being a bit of a slower driver and maybe once in a while he would crank it up past 3000
