:redbrick: so my stock alt. konked out. i dont blame it trying to power dual 17" electric fans and 1802 watts of lighting. i bought the 140amp cs144 with the delco plug. ive been scowering the web for two days ****ing around trying ot get this wiring sorted out. im at my wits end. ive tried everything and theres no combination that will allow this beast to charge. can someone please plainly explain to me how to wire this up. its a 97 2.7l.

that plug adapter is nice, but seems more like you want to wire it asap and ive done it before, your 4 cyl might be different from my 6 cyl though, if you look on the stock alt harness there should be three letters as well. i matched up which was the power wire, the alt/batter light wire, and finall a third i dont remember what its purpose was.

but best thing to do, i called an alternator shop locally and they were able to explain to me on both alts which wire did what then it was a matter of just matching them up.

thanks alot buddy. but i dont particularly want to buy one of those. im more of a make it myself guy. its been done, but not plain and simple like i want. hard to find info i guess thanks again though

That's a nice suggestion too, but will they be open on Saturday... or Sunday? :nono:

Since I like posting links... here's the nitty gritty

UltimateYota.com - GM CS-144 140amp alternator install

The factory wiring colors referenced in the above link are:

White = SENSE
Red w/ blue stripe = IGNITION (FIELD)
Yellow = LIGHT

Looks like you're dealing w/the same wiring, so the info should apply to your install. Hope that's plain and simple enough for ya.

I can't see the word winning without thinking of Charlie Sheen and drugs and that youtube song. And thats how I wound up here.

that alternator better put out at least 1.21 Gigawatts... that's all im sayin.

I could see all those lights being useful on an expedition of sorts. If not, they probably just look cool and I pity the fool who leaves his brights on...

i just got my cs144 alt today along with the adapter harness. i will be attempting to instal it this weekend. my old alt is not bad but will be kept as a spare and i have future plans for it as well

That's the same thing I did. Having a back up alt and being able to plug and play is the way to go.
