Enough of the spilled coffee!!!

Here is what I did for my Venti sized coffee cup.

Set you next coffe cup on top of three bounty paper towels. Wrap the towels up and set the cup and towels into the cup holder set in the middle position with the little arm extended into the holder area. The towels will make a little nest to hold your cup upright and your coffee a lot warmer. Problem solved.

I am totally missing something with this because I have never had a problem with the cupholder. The adjustable arms hold everything for me.

My adjustable arm increments are too coarse to get a good sizing but the real problem is the lack of depth. A 16 oz coffee cup from a convenient store tips from side to side even after adjusting the arms. A 20 oz. cup is suicide. Or would that be sloshicide? Or cofeecide? or liquidcide?

i've been doing the same trick since i've had my Runner. Hell the first night I dropped by 'Bucks and picked up a white chocolate mocha

This idea worked great in my Honda CR-V and Passport, did not have a need in my 4Runner, but maybe you guys need it. Much like the paper towel idea, I used those can holders: you know those padded things that a cold beer/soda sits in and supposed to keep it at it's temperature. I had one in each cupholder in the two cars mentioned earlier and it worked like a charm.

I personnaly hate the front cup holders in the 4th gen 4Runners. They cant hold anything very well. I like the ones in the back armrest better. Even so, I still think the cup holders in my previous 4Runner(99 Limited) were much better.

I must be ignorantly bliss because I think the front cupholders are fine.

too bad you cant move the rear center armrest cupholder system to the front (just the cupholder system, not the whole tray). now that would be a great mod if someone could figure that out.

I dont like the cup holders. It's my biggest (of very few, mind you) pet peeves!! Even with the stupid little "wings" it doesn't hold the most common size drink (a soda can) snuggly. The 4Runners ride is very smooth on roads, so most of the time it's not bad, but take it off-road or over minor bumps or curvy roads and it wobbles and spills all over the place. What were they thinking!!

I like the pull-out cup-holder on my 93 Toyota pickup best, standard aluminum cans, coffee mugs, etc fit PERFECTLY snug in the holes...even crawling around in the hills! Who the heck needs to drive around with a stinkin' Big Gulp 50 oz cup anyway???

I know this is an old thread, but I just wish that the little "wings" were a little harder to move by themselves with a cup in it.

Yeap, the cup holders suck. They can't even hold a 16oz bottle of soda tight enough to keep it from moving around. Oh well......

I have found that one of those thin can 'huggies' works very well for most drinks. But then, if I am going to go off road, I keep the can closed or cap on bottle until I can stop and drink safely.

OK, here's something that may have helped. I took the little "wing" section apart & scuffed-up the friction surfaces with sandpaper. Not too much - just enough to get the shine off them, so they won't move quite as easily.

I'll test it over the next couple days & report back.

There haven't been many disappointments but as a new owner(2005) I have to say this is one of them. I was looking for a spot to mount my roady xm radio and just by chance pulled out the center section ,only took me a month to figure that out...can't bring me along to fast guys. Anyway the head fits pretty good in that space now and its out of the way. But the downside is can't use center section but still have room for cup but nothing to hold it but my hand. Too bad...sure will miss that holder as bad as it was. Just haven't found agood spot for that radio..but until I do I will probably use that space. Wire management sucks too for that radio. Just can't figure what to do with it. The other big diappointment is that space under the air/heating controls with that door that does nothing. That rig is a laugh and a waste of space,good for nothing.
But I am thrilled with the rest of it...best vehicle ever.

Didn't someone stick that up in the sunglass holder? Or am I confused with something else?

I think I read a thread where someone wanted to do that but not sure if it was ever done. Yes ,It would fit there but getting the wiring there and the antenna is a whole story by itself. What a job that would be. If anyone has done that I sure would like to know about it and how to do it.

You can get a Belkin Tunedok, turn it upside down, and stick it in the passenger cup holder. That way you can have your Roady down there and still have at least one cup holder to use. That's how I have mine set up, and my only problem is that it's a little wobbly. I'm sure there is an easy fix for that, it just hasn't bothered me enough to do something about it yet.

I'd post a picture but I dropped my digital camera (there's $300 down the drain ).
