Cup holder solution for 1st gen?

Time to resolve my cupholder issue.. as we know, there are none. I'm gonna make my own center console and may find a place to add the cup holders to it but I have no clue where yet. I hate floppy cup holders.. I need them to be solid.. stay where they are and be out of the way while easily reached. Not too much to ask right? lol
Bottom line- I'd LOVE to see pics of your best solution.. particularly if your sure theres no better way. Seems the things I come up with are freakin brilliant! untill I run across someone else's; I'd rather build them in once and be done of it. Thanks!

Relocate Console Switches then turn console to cup holder

Relocate your console switches.

That leaves your console open for modification into cup-holder. Mine's unfinished, but getting there....

"Standard" coffee mug would sit on surface with gold line...
Skinny travel cup would sit lower in cut-out.

I still need to make it pretty but it works now...

Have a look at dortons build thread, i thought i saw some pics of a console he made from scratch that came out awesome....as for me i just got a older heep console with a lock and cupholders, that will fit with a bit of modification

This is the solution I made at Home Depot. Some how the pic posted upside down

Hmm...good point, but its an option! I know the 4cyl shifters sit further back, I wonder if those would work versus the V6 setup. The shifter on my 89 V6 is pretty close to the radio.....

I just set mine in the space just to my left, between the seat and the door. It rests on the lever to lean the seat back, and is held into place perfectly. Been doing this for so many years, that I don't even forget to grab it when I open the door anymore!

I did this ^^ for years too. But when I added the wide PRP seats to the mix it took my cup room.

my solution was to buy an 06:D

seriously, the lack of cupholders in my 85s is a PITA.

as stated above, you could relocated the switches, and install a TRUCK center console. unless you have or want to keep the rear heat, which personally, i'll do whatever it takes to keep that.

I have one in...my truck. its still not ideal, but works well enough. ive only used it for soda cans so far tho, but I think it would work with whatever else.
this of course only gives you ONE space tho.

If you only need 1 socket I did one on the passenger side in the metal frame work of the radio section. If you look up from the passenger floor board kind of under the plastic dash for the radio area. You will see a metal frame work that has a large hole in it. I just drilled this out and added an after market 12volt socket.
