Cup Holders for the 1st gen?

Subbed. This looks awesome. Could it work on either side for driver and passenger, or only the passenger side?

I have red interior, it would be cool if I could get this to match but not a huge deal. I also have triple shifters, but it doesn't look like that will be an issue

I could mirror it to fit on the driver side but it would be right up against your leg which would be really annoying when pushing the gas peddle. I figured the passenger isn't pushing any pedals so they wont keep bumping into it. The 1st gen is also so narrow that it's not really much of a reach to grab the cup from the passenger side of the console. Your only a couple inches from the cup when your in 5th gear anyways. I have the 80 series double cup holder hanging off the passenger side and the 80 series is WAY wider and I still have zero issues reaching my cups.

Awesome, I am definitely interested in a black holder, and I have a few friends that may be interested. Another common color to consider is brown, I have two friends with brown interior 1st gens.

Yep. I picked up a box of black paint for plastic yesterday. I also found a better match to the factory gray. So I will release the 1st gen's in the black and gray option. I had to ship the prototype to the console owner. We just could not get our schedules to match up. I used 1 day shipping so he should have it delivered today. I asked him for pics to verify perfect fitment and zero interference issues with the dash, shifters, and passenger seat. I'm pretty confident everything should fit perfect but I want verification before I post these to my site. I am also still looking for a pic of the automatic console so I can verify if my current design will work or if I need to make changes.

So I heard back from the guy that got the first prototype installed. It had zero interference issues with the 5 speed and 4WD shifter. In 5th gear and 4lo there was plenty of room. The seat lost about an 1" of forward movement but still easily accessable for passengers getting into and out of the back seat. The cup holder did come in contact with the dash but did not create any functional issues. I will move it back about 1/4" of an inch to have zero contact with the dash. I'm actually making that change right now. I will have the final design done by late tomorrow and will get these into production on Monday. I plan to make a decent size batch before I release these to my website. They should be up on my site by this coming Friday evening. I will also start working on the double cup holder for the center console storage compartment late next week or the week following. Here's the pics he sent me. I will have better pics tomorrow.

So I made some minor changes to the design to get fitment perfect. The cup holder now clears the dash, shifters, and leaves almost full range of motion of the seat for passengers climbing into the back. Here are a few mor pics. I have 6 machines printing these right now. I should have a good size batch done by late tomorrow night and will get them up on my website on Wednesday evening.

So I'm still planning to release the first batch tomorrow but still have one concern. I have not seen a pic of an automatic console of a 1st gen. Would REALLY like to see what that console looks like. I want to know if it will work with my cup holder or not. If not, I need to make those changes to account for that. Whoever has an auto and loans me the shifter section of the console will get a free cup holder out of it. At this point, I can only guarantee that they will fit on the 5 speed manual and not automatic.

Edit: Just found this pic. I'm assuming this is a 4Runner? Is the auto the more common option or the manual? I can GUARANTEE my cup holder WILL NOT fit on the automatic console now that I have seen it. My offer still stands. I will still make a cup holder for the auto and whoever loans me the console first, gets a free cup holder out of it.

After looking at that console some more; I'm not even sure there is enough space for a cup holder up there. The double cup holder for the storage part of the console might be the only option for the folks with the auto. What I need to see if a profile shot from the side so I can see the distance between the shifters (all the way forward) and the dash.

I don't know if the autos outnumbered the manuals when new, but I would think that just out of popularity and longevity, that there are more manuals on the road at this time.

Alright, well I don't want to wait for the auto console to release the manual console cup holders. So I went ahead and got the first batch up on my site. I'm still interested in developing one for the automatic if someone is willing to loan me their console for about a week. I will also start working on the double cup holder that will mount in the storage section of the center console. Shipping is free so if you buy a single now and a double down the road when I release it; your not going to pay twice for shipping. Here is the final version installed. It sits right up against the dash to allow for the most amount of movement for the seat BUT does not get pushed forward by the dash. It will sit nice and flush/level and but tight to the dash. I had VERY little space to work with and felt this was about as good as a spot as I can place it and still allow full function of the shifters, full movement of the seat (minus a little over an inch), and clearing the dash. I will get some pics of the black one installed within a few days. I basically am waiting for someone to order a black one, install it, and then send me pics. I think the two tone black cup holder with gray insert is a nice look but may look funky in a red interior. I figured you could snap pics of the black on black and the black on gray and post it here. We can get folks feedback and I will go with the most popular option. Sound ok to you? I made a HUGE mistake and I need to correct it right now. I was installing a cup holder today for a local 1st gen guy and noticed an issue that my earlier versions didn't have. I have now made and shipped off 3 large batches of the 1st gen single cup holders with the 4th batch in production. there have been a couple minor changes between the batches to better fit the console. Most are not noticeable to the eye. The last change was a big mistake. I had made a notch on the back side of the cupholder to allow the dash to clear. It wasn't really visible once installed but was there to keep the cup holder as far foward as possible to allow for full range of motion of the seat. I went to look at the file last week and realized that change had not bee saved so I redid the change. In my haste to add back the latest change I put the notch on the outside edge of the cup holder and not the back edge. The cup holders will still fit and function fine but will have a recessed area on the passenger side which serves no purpose. If for any reason this bothers someone I will give you two options. You can ship it back (I will cover the cost in shipping) and I will ship you the latest corrected version OR I can give you a 50% off discount and call it a "prototype" print. I will be sending out an email to the folks who recieved cup holders from the last batch (should be about 10 of you). You can repsond to that or pm me on this forum. I will make it right. I am very sorry for the mistake. I'm glad I caught it early and only have to fix 10 orders and not 50+.

Edit: All people who got the messed up order have now been contacted. The good news is that my wife had not shipped out the weekend orders yet so I was able to stop 5 of them before they even shipped. That means only 5 of you got one with the notch in the wrong spot.
