Cup Holders for the 1st gen?

I have been working hard at perfecting the cup holder design for the 1st gen. It took longer than expected due to some of my machines craping out at the same time. I had to use the rest of my machines to fill orders and couldn't prototype much. I do have a design that now fits perfectly on the console. The next step is to get it installed in the rig and make sure there are no fitment/interference issues with the shifters, seats, or dash. I hope to get it installed and pics posted in the next couple days. I also need to find the factory gray color. Is gray the only interior console color or is there more? I had tried 3 paints so far but no match yet. I will keep looking. Here is what I have so far.

I always set whatever im drinking on that flat section, just behind the shifters.

it would be nice to have hard mounted cup holder in that area. behind the shifters, forward of the switches.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but it looks like some of your center console ones will fit in the 2nd gen console. These things are great! Probaly going to get one. Be nice to not have the heater vents blast hot air on my bear in the winter. AC helping keep it cold in the summer is nice though.

If I could get someone willing to loan me the storage section part of the console I would make a cup holder for them for free. I would need the console for about a week.

I am going to shift my focus on the 2nd gen 4runner cupholders for a few weeks. Once I have those done then I will go back and look at that square hole on the first gen center console. I will see if I can come up with a cup holder for that spot.

I'm not sure. The one for the short console without heat would probably work if you were ok with keeping the lid off at all times. It would not seat all the way down in there so it would not be a snug fit. You would want to use some strips of 3M automotive adhesive on the bottom to keep it in place. if you do order one, let me know and I will go ahead and install the adhesive for you. If for some reason it doesn't work, then ship it back and I will give you a full refund.

but, I was talking about one that's somewhat similar to the other 1st gen you made, but to mount just behind the shifters, in front of the switches.

I have no desire to relocate my switches at this time.

I understand now. that was the first place I tried to place a cup holder. Unfortunately there was not enough real estate. I could not fit two cups across because it would hit the cushions on both seats. I could fit a narrow single there but not even enough space for the cell phone holder. Hanging the cup holder off the side of the console seemed to be the best option. It gave me the needed space to make is as functional as I wanted. The square hole area is also another good spot for a single cup holder but apparently that feature is not standard (since some have switches there). I will have to think about it some more to figure out the best option for another cup holder.

Just realized the 1st gen double cup holder was out of stock. Sorry about that. I made a 2nd batch of them but apparently forgot to update my website. I have been so busy with the new aluminum TEQ badges that I spaced on restocking my site. Not sure how long it has been that way but it's fixed now.

Only flaw I see is if youre driving and you hit the brakes to hard or if someone hits the arm rest; it would come down on your drinks.

Have you thought of a way to keep the arm rest up?

the narrow double cup insert has the pen holders in the back for that exact reason. Stick a pen or pencil in there and the lid hits the pen before the cup. Not a great solution, but it works. The wider double insert (short console with no heat) does not have the pen holder in the back because I could not quite fit them. I will go back and see if I can fit something there to help keep the lip open when needed. The other option for the shorter console is to just remove the lid since it is way to short to provide an armrest. It really has no purpose.

It can get kind of obnoxious driving around with the lid up all day anyways.
Probably would be easiest to find a way to take the top off and put it on whenever you'd like.

That was my exact thought. I would definitely remove the lid on the short console with hard top since it can not be used as an armrest. The lid serves no purpose. The tall console with padded armrest makes more sense to stay and use a pen/pencil to prop it up when using the double cup holder.

Yeah I love the arm rests lol. You should make like a quick release, so when you have a drink, you can put the top behind your seat until you're done with your drink then just pop it back on.

I figured it was time for an update. The initial wave of 1st gen cup holder orders has finally slowed down. I will now be cutting back in production on them to focus on production of the 2nd gen cup holders. I will still continue to make the 1st gen cup holders but they will now be made to order instead of a large inventory of them. Shipping will now be 2-3 days out instead of next day. I have the 2WD double cup 2nd gen design just about done and will be focusing on the manual trans and 4WD auto later this week.

I might be able to hook you up but not sure when. Works crazy and I'm trying to fill deer, bear, and pig tags. I'll try to get measuerments and pics of mine. I think some of what you have already made will fit.

So the 2WD 2nd gen double cup holder is officially done with design. The final smooth version is on the printer now. I am now ready to move on to the 4WD auto and manual. Anyone willing to loan me their console for about a week? You get a free cup holder for the help. My local Yard does have a couple 4WD autos but no manual tranny 2nd gens.

So I finally wrapped up 2WD version 1.0. I shipped it out today for test fitting of the shifter, dash, and seat. I should know within a few days if there will be any fitment issues and needed changes. Now I need the manual console bezel and the 4WD auto console bezel. Anyone willing to loan me one of the two bezels? A free cup holder will go to the person willing to help.

my 87 manual dose'nt have the bezel, but the 4wd shiftier goes way forward and right, in the same air space as that one.
