Curious if this is the original PCV valve

Just pulled and replaced the PCV valve and grommet on my 97 ltd. The valve was really stuck in there good and the petrified grommet snapped in half upon removal — prompting a quick fishing expedition into the valve cover with a set of needle-nose to recover.

The PO rarely if ever did any type of preventive maintenance, AND if they did — they surely would not have replaced it with OEM parts, so I suspect that this is the original PCV valve.

Can anyone tell just from looking at it?

Looks like it. I changed my valve for the first time in the history of the vehicle (about 16 years), and the grommet did the exact same thing. Looks identical to the valve I pulled off of mine.

Can't say if it is the original or if it has been replaced., but def looks like a toyota one. Only ones I have seen made with metal are toyota.

Yeah I compared it to the new OEM valve I replaced it with and it's definitely a genuine Toyota PCV valve — that's what threw me off. The previous owner never had any service done at Toyota or even at any kind of mechanic that would use an OEM part. Strictly AutoZone or other bottom of the barrel kind of stuff for them. So that fact in conjunction with it being in the condition I found it, made me think that PCV made it through 364k miles and 19 years.

Lots of OEM stuff on it. A true testament to Toyota durability. This truck should not be alive at all, let alone running well.
