A friend of mine has a 1988 TR4, that has been sitting in his yard for about a year now. He "says" that the guy he bought it from ran hte oil really low and messed up the engine. He's selling this for $500. is it worth it to fix up? I have a 92 Jeep now with 300 000 miles on it. I just want a truck to play around in.

Depending on how long it was run and how low the oil actually was, there may or may not be engine damage, the 22RE is pretty much indestructable.
What are your plans if the engine is shot ?
Do you have the $$, time, etc. to rebuild or replace it if needed?
I'd talk him down to $250 or so.
