The problem was that he sold a rack that he wasn't making. He should have never sold something that was tested, and wasn't guaranteed to fit. At least this time the rack has been fitted to work on a 3rd Gen.

Like how he said it was tested and designed on a 3rd gen, right? lol... And how it would be ready for summer, but actually wasn't even ready for winter... And how it was almost done being redesigned, and then was never actually redesigned...

All of which is only information only you two know about. If it's not an available item on his website I would have been leery about ordering a rack. I would not have ordered a rack without seeing it on a 3rd Gen in the first place. It's like buying a bumper from a guy with a website that makes bumpers for Toyota's, and he tells you he has something that'll work. You're taking that risk since you're not seeing the finished product mounted on your model vehicle.
Hopefully it goes better for me. If it doesn't I'll send it back after I make a design just like it that'll work for me.

I'm all for trying it out, and I'm not going to say anything negative until I see what it looks like mounted up. There isn't anything on the website, and I've never seen it on a 3rd gen. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm really hoping it works! (And if it doesn't, I really want to see what you come up with instead!)
My only concern would be the extruded crossmembers. I've never really been a fan of 80-20, and don't know many people that are, especially for more 'permanent' pieces. I've seen a cart rattle around a shop floor and cringed... The idea of steel threaded into aluminum makes me nervous here. Obviously they've been used and seem to have held up. Definitely makes the price difference too it looks like as long as it comes in close to the other on the site

I eventually plan to make my own rack almost COMPLETELY out of 80-20 pieces, using a very similar method to how U-Joint offroad does their van racks...
As you can see in this image there is absolutely NO steel being threaded into aluminum, it all pieces together using the slots.
I sent U-Joint an e-mail asking if I could buy just the corner pieces... Understandably, I haven't heard back. With the premium they're charging to essentially source the materials, I doubt they want to sell the only pieces they appear to be actually fabricating. Maybe they do the mounts too, I don't know.

This is nice! If I can't find a welder in the next couple years I'd probably try something like that. I've also liked what some people have been doing with Unistrut. Options are always good!

I heard back from them today. A set of 4 corners will run you $479. Ouch.

Or make your own. It's only three pieces welded together. Nothing fancy about it besides their logo cut into it.

My emails were deleted so I figured I'd just wait until I got it installed. The fitment was great, and had zero issues installing it. My only complaint was the mix match hardware it came with. It came with some stainless, and the rest was zinc plated. I ended up getting all stainless so I wouldn't have to deal with rusted nuts/bolts down the road. Took about an hour to install the rack.

That looks great. Definitely like that it's lower to the roof too. And looks pretty wide. Any complaints, and does it seem pretty sturdy. I haven't seen it up on the website. Only other question would be price! I'm hoping it's less than the 4th gen since it's only 3/4 length...

You have a few options that would change the price on it. Depending on if you want it coated or not, and depending on the bars. I paid $700 for coated, 7 cross bars (only need 5), and shipping. Uncoated is $100 less, but I didn't feel like messing with it. It does seem pretty sturdy, or at least as sturdy as anything can on factory tracks. My biggest compliant would be the mix matched hardware, and having to buy stainless stuff to match. Maybe it's just me, but I wanted it all stainless. I can get a measurement on the width, but it's pretty close to 48" wide.

What's the distance from the surface of the roof to the top surface of the cross peices?
Also- your awning looks very well mounted. How is it hooked up there?

With the curve of the roof the distance to the bottom of the cross members ranges from 1" to 1-1/2". Distance to the top of the cross members is 2" to 2-1/2". The distance from side to side is 47".
With the awning I was only able to use the top channel for mounting. I also couldn't mount is flat against the side due to how the cross members mount. I ended up spacing it out some with nylon spacers, and used 8 bolts to hold it in place.
