Current Rear Bumper Options???

Hey all,

About a year and a half ago, I damaged my rear bumper and got it replaced with a stock plastic one. About a month afterwards, I realized I made a major mistake and should have used the insurance money for an off road one. Doh!

Last night, I had someone hit and run me after they backed into the bumper. Now that I've got another chance, I'm not going to miss it.

I've spent a LOT of time daydreaming about a front bumper and I know there are a lot of options out there. I particularly have been thinking about going aluminum for the reduced weight. Much to my dismay, when I went to look for rear bumpers, I didn't find any aluminum options (kinda makes sense with towing and what not). What's more, I can't seem to find many options other than CBI and 4x4Labs. I don't totally love the look of either. I've searched high and low and come up with some historical things that were out there but don't seem to be anymore. Anybody have a line on other options?

If it's got to be one of the two, it looks like CBI is waaaay easier to install as it's a bolt-on. 4x4Labs looks like it requires a lot of chopping, probably more than I really want to do on my own. I see that CBI is significantly more popular, probably for that reason.

So which one's really best? I'm looking for something 'relatively' lighter (not than stock, unless you know someone making them out of unobtanium), with better clearance and departure angles, and that can maintain stock towing capabilities. Thoughts?

P.s. I've currently got a 3/2" daystar spacer lift. Been thinking about a little body lift lately, too.

I see you've got the receiver on the bumper. If I understand correctly, this bumper goes over the ladder frame the same way the stock plastic one does, right? So how does the departure angle and ground clearance compare?

Yes it does. Those four bolts around the receiver hold the bumper to the truck. I've had no issues with any angles. There is more clearance than the stock bumper. You don't have to use the receiver if your concerned about clearance.

That's good. Also, what are the bars around the side of the bumper for? Tie down points people to help when you're on three wheels and about to roll over?

Insain Fab is in Colorado and will build you a rear bumper.

Not sure if adding a rear bumper with a spacer lift is a good or economical idea and the body lift will just add a gap to your rear bumper and body, unless Insain Fab compensates for that.

It's not an option on their website. They can be used for just about anything. I was mostly concerned with protecting that quarter panel

I see the CB has an option to account for a BL, so I assume it must be something that can be compensated for.

The more I look around and see this option, the more I think I like it. I'll keep it in mind as an add-on.

Another quick question: if I did go the 4x4Labs route, would cutting the frame screw me with my insurance company in the future? Does anyone have experience with this?
