Custom Stereo 2 JL12" W3v2

Ive just started to build a custom sub enclosure for my 04 4runner and i was wondering what you guys think here is a picture of the started product but when it is finished it will have a glowing toyota emblem in the middle and will have wings to fit the side panels perfectly.

we new we had alot of room to work with and i wanted big sound so i decided i wanted 2 12" subs but i still wanted the max amt of space, we used cardboard to get a rough estimate for the angles.

we knew we wanted to use double angles and we decided to put subs on each side to give us max space for cargo

next we put on the fronts of the box which was harder than it looks considering ea side had to be sanded to fit the front witha perfect angle so it would be sealed properly. this is as far as we have gotten but we plan to get back to work here in the next week or so

When we are done the sides will fit perfectly all the way up against the side panels and it will look like one piece. The center will be dropped about an inch from the top and reseeds in about half an inch. The middle of the center piece will glow with a Toyota or a JL audio emblem. What do you guys think JL or TOYOTA? Also the subs are the JL 12" W3v2 so there mostly black with a white emblem. The enclosure is going to be 2tone black with something else. What colors do you think I should use? My car is white and I have the dark grey interior

also here is a close up

Looks nice bro!! Can't wait to see it finally finished. I personally couldn't put all that work into a custom enclosure because I need the room to haul my paintball equipment in.

Can't wait to see it completed though! :thumb:

yeah i orderd the subs today from www.onlinecarstereo.com one of the cheapest(free shipping+1year warrenty) and i will continue working on it throughout december but something this serious is going to take time i dont want to rush it i want to make it perfect i will def post pictures along the way. do you have anyidea on what color carpet i should use?
Bailey

hehe, I'm the last person to ask. This is the first vehicle I ever bought subs for so I'm no where near a connisieur! Looks like maybe a stone carpet would match your trucks interior

Hey.. that looks great! I was thinking of doing something similar with 2 10", maybe have them angled up a bit more (just the design in my head)... mount the amp in the middle.

I'm interested to see what you do with the glowing emblem..

thats awesome. yeah i think custom stereos are so cool because its something oyu have that nobody else can touch. i will warn you before you get too far into it plan very hard how your going to do the angles because if you dont there are very many unknowns.
but about the emblem it will be real neat i actually took the idea off a bunny of mines xterra. me and him are the ones that do most of the custom stereo work. i will get him to send me a picture of his new JL system but heres a pretty cool one at night of his old Alpine type R one... no glowing emblems but the red led's really make the back of his car look cool

Thats a serious rig! I was thinking of carpeting mine so it blends in with the carpet.

Regarding the sub enclosures.. do you screw and glue or tacknail and glue? Whats the recommended wood?

I'm a complete novice at this... :p

MDF (medium density fiberboard) and you use glu and then screw to hold it while the glue dries. once the glue bonds it is strogner than the wood itself. after screwing you put the left over saw dust in to fill any gaps but then afterwards i use wood filler puddy to seal it perfectle they sand it all smooth.

Gbailey,

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll try get some board and see what I can whip up..

Keep us updated with pix of your install.

Well Gbailey, ive been thinking about putting a sub or two in my 04 and when i just now saw how you did yours i said THATS IT! So thanks for the idea im going to use your design and put 2 jbl 10inch w7's. I havent got started yet, prolly wont till after the holidays. But im glad i saw how you did that b/c i was running out of ideas on how to have some subs but still have some room to put things and it still be functional, you know what i mean. Just curious... i cant really tell from the pics, about how much space is left from the end of the box to were the back hatch closes? Once again thanks for the idea, thats why i love this forum so much!

heres a random pic of my runner with my new wheels
